Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() i was looking at possibilities of putting a 13" alloys on my alto with Michelin XM1 13" tyres. i tried some models on my alto in the showroom just by removing the rear tyre and putting a test 13" tyre with alloy. i could figure out that the tyres will surely scrap the wheels. on city roads they seem fine but many times i have to drive to my native place and some villages which have no road at all that too with full load at the rear. theres lot of twisting on this roads. i dont want to take a risk of tyres scrapping not do i want to take a risk of the alloys cracking in this hell type roads. the dealer too told me frankly that he has fitted 13 inchers on zen and alto but have always faced problems. even with spacers the stability becomes doubtfull. so he suggested me to go for 13" rims from wagon R and then put on Michelin 155/65 R13 on them. so i have to forget about alloys, nor i am too crazy for them. can this be done? will it have any ill effects? i also plan to paint the rims black and just the ring adjacent to the tyres will be silver. it will look good i suppose. ![]() Last edited by aah78 : 5th November 2008 at 00:52. | ![]() Amit, there're enough threads in which people have put 13" in Alto. There're methods explained on how to avoid the tires touching the body. Please use the search function. Especially in tires and alloys section. |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() ya i know, but conditions of driving are quite different with them. i want to analyze about putting 13" rims instead of alloys. |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() I had posted this question long back on one of threads asking if we could fit a baleno's stock 13" rims onto an Alto. The question still remains un-answered ![]() |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() i dont have any ready sets of 13" rims, i will go and buy brand new ones directly from the showroom or from somewhere where people have changed the brand new sets for alloys. i have seen people on the forum have fitted 13" alloys on alto but there is some or the other pain associated with it. my rear suspensions lower quite a well when 3 people sit at the back and when i drive in village rough roads where the surface is very uneven and one side of your car goes up while other flexes down. quite a body roll u see. so i think instead of going for spacers or bending the sheet metal and what not trail and error better to sacrifice looks and go for practicality. else michelin has also launched 155/65 R12 tyres last month. is it better to go for those? with 12" alloys?? earlier michelin had just 145/80 R12 i.e OE specifications. |

| ![]() IMHO 155/65 R12 is wrong size. there is a difference -6%. so when you are traveling at 100kmph u r actually doing 94kmph. |

BTW, how can tyre scrap the wheel ![]() Quote:
Probably that upsize (155/65R12), Michelin is only targetting M800 customers which comes with 145/70R12 tyres. Abhi

So with 13" on alto the ride will be stiffer and steel rims means chance of rim getting bent on poor roads. I don't think it will foul as Alto's suspension setup is similar to WagonR and estilo on 13".

I have installed spacers that got the suspension to rise a bit and have never seen them touching or scraping unlike before. I have had them since about 5 months now and no complaints. All the while I thought of getting 155's(section width from sidewall to sidewall) 65/R13 but 165's(section width from sidewall to sidewall) 65/R13 are better in taking a hit on badroads than 155's because of their higher sectionwidth and thats my personal thought though.

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() but i think 165 section width will surely hit the wheel arches. the recommended rim width is 5.0 by michelin while almost all 13" alloys come in 5.5J. neo has some but not worth the money. so i think the stock rims on wagon R should be 5.0J (someone please confirm). so 155/65 R13 on stock rims should not scrap the alto wheel arcs i suppose. can someone please tell me whether 155/65 R12 and 155/65 R13 provide the same grip levels and comfort? ![]() |
