re: Alto K10 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Planning to upgrade my K10 stock tyres next weekend to 165/65/R13. Wanted to know if the stock rims for the k10 can handle these, or whether I need to switch to alloys (5.5, I think) . Can someone advise if I would face any issues with 165/65 R13 tyres on stock rims?

re: Alto K10 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

My K10 Amt will be delivered on wednesday. Any suggestions about 165 65 13 Michelins on alloys, or should I stick to 155 65 13

re: Alto K10 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I feel 165/65 R 13 on alloys will foul with the wheel arches on full load when mounted on alloys. New alloys you will get only in 5.5J or above anything below will be very rare to find which will have a slight offset so would suggest to go in for 165/60 R13 that will be the best bet.

If you are a preety sedate driver and if the usage is going to be Max 2 people most of the time than you can jump to 165/65 R13.

165/65R13 size needs a rim width of 4.5" - 6" (both inclusive).

From what I've seen, the 165/65 is no problem. The increase of 6.5mm is normally accommodated by any and every car.

re: Alto K10 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Yes on stock rims they may be fine but I feel on alloys its going to be a tricky option thats what I meant.

I have owned the old model wagonR and had upgraded to 165/65 R13 Yokohama A-drives on stock rims they were fine and didn't foul with any body panels or wheel arches.

But after installation of alloys I started facing issues of tyres touching the body over speed breakers so its going to be important to check the offset of the wheels and trust me finding correct offset alloys in 13 inch is a huge task. Safest bet for alloy upgrade will be 165/60 R13

Thanks for the reply.
I got my k10 amt delivered yesterday. Its having bridgestone s322 tyres.
Yet to find an alloy of my taste. Not much options in 13 inchers in my city.

re: Alto K10 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I am considering an alloy upgrade for my new Alto k10 amt. I want to keep the same tyres and only change the rim. What are the good brands and costs?

re: Alto K10 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I am using 165/65 yoko with alloys on my k10...prestige make alloys 13 inch.I am facing a problem with one of the wheels. The mechanic guys measured it and couldn't find any issues with suspension or other parts. This issue is only with one tyre when the vehicle is loaded with four passengers.the other three tyres are perfectly fine.Checked from all possible angles.cant understand why the issue is with one tyre only???

Now the guys are asking to put spacers which i don't want to go for due to unsettled ride..... This issue is with load only...otherwise its perfectly fine....can experts help on this???

@spiritofmars, you wont face issue with stock rims...i have used it for one year....

re: Alto K10 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

@shebin exactly what i referred to in my previous comment its to do with the offset and width of the alloys. If you are not comfortable with the spacers than try the autorunners.

Best bet swap your tyres to 165/60 R13 at the next tyre change but till than you need to change your driving style. I would say even with 165/65 R13 if you change your driving style you can live with it. But if you are a aggressive driver and travel with 3 or more members in the car often than only option would be swap the tyres.

re: Alto K10 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Thanks for the reply @sheldon,
As posted earlier i am not comfortable with spacers.I drive little fast and usually two people will be there. But some times i have to accomodate three and then the problem starts with back wheels. Its only a small point of contact but still irritates a lot.So now i am driving slow when fully loaded but still you will meet some stupid potholes and hump. The tyre already has lost some skin on the outer. Now i dont think i can swap it with any tyre shop.

BTW whats an auto runner...coming across the term for first time...

@ shebin I would suggest going throught GTO's thread Coil Spring Adjusters : VFM Fix for the Honda Civic's (lousy) soft rear suspension? It will give you a better picture of how to deal with this problem.

This is not a 100% solution but most of the times ull save your tyres from being scraped.

re: Alto K10 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I am considering an upgrade for my K10 (old model) from the stock rims and tyres. I am eyeing 13x5.5J alloys with 175/60 Yokohama A539s.

I was initially considering only a tyre upgrade to 165/60 Potenza G3 but they do not seem to be available anymore. The dealer suggested the Yokos.

My questions: I noticed some posts stating that 13x6J with 175/60 rubs and will require spacers, but does the same hold for 5.5Js as well?

How much can I expect for my current set of tyres and rims? I have done about 5500 KMs and the spare has never been used.

I'm currently running this configuration in my old Alto.
The rims are 5.5J 13" Platis & the tires are 175/60R13 A539s.
Been running this set-up for close to 8 years now & on my 3rd set of A539s ( they last for ~25 K Kms ).

I would advise against this set-up, the wide tires on the narrow stock rims give a "floaty" sensation, particularly while cornering ( the sensation is very similar to what you get in a Nano or in a railway carriage ).

Yes, in all probability, they will rub, particularly at the rear, especially when loaded.
That said, it really, really depends on the offset of the rims you get, most aftermarket rims have too much offset & although they give the car a good stance, they'll cause rubbing.

To give you an example, my Alto has H&R lowering springs at the rear ( stiffer than stock ), dampers from Pedders ( again, much stiffer than stock ), to top if off I'm using those rubber 'donuts' from Auto-Runner ( coil-spring "adjusters" ) at the rear.
Even with all of the above, with just 2 adults in the back, the rear tires rub at anything over 30 Kmph !

When getting your rims, measure the offset of the stock vs the aftermarket rims & choose rims that have the smallest difference.

The fronts will not rub very much, but big dips or potholes taken at speed will cause some rubbing, but it's not usually serious.
You're more likely to "catch" the tread-blocks of the tire on the inner lip of the front bumper at certain steering angles.

I would advise against spacers, they 'jack up' the car & give it an 'on stilts' stance.
Just choose your offset correctly & you should be good - even with 175s.
.
