No. The ideal upsize for 185/60R15 is 205/50R16.

There are far more choices in 205/55 R16 (stock size on Skoda Octavia RS). Yoko has S-Drives and A-Drives, Bridgestone has Potenza G3 and Turanza, Michelin has Primacy HP.

In 205/50 R16 you have S-Drive, a new PS3 offering from Michelin, and an Apollo Accelere Sportz

I'd suggest go for S-Drives in either case.

Thanks mate!. I did a comparison in 1010tires.com. As you could see, 205-55-R16 has much higher diameter diff than suggested max 3%. On this, 205-50-R16 is better. But on 205-50-R16, side wall height is less by ~1cm!

What would be the impact on ride quality between these?. And tire noise in case of Yoko S drive? I dont like to have too much tire noise on highways.

Lastly, should I go with 16" or is it better to continue with 15" (Both 205)

I would highly recommend your sticking with 205/55 R15. It'll give you grip as well as retain the ride.

Sorry, but that is just wrong. 205/50 R15 is a horrible choice for the Vento.

GTO, Can you elaborate on why 16" is not recommended? I too see in the comparison chart that 205/55 R15 is the best fit. Still would like to know the negative aspects of having 16"

IIRC, there was a post in your Vento test drive thread suggesting 16" for Diesel and 15" for Petrol. Thanks!

re: Volkswagen Vento : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi all, I am also planning to upgrade the tyres of my Vento which has just arrived, I have 2 questions regarding this.

1) Is 205/55/R15 most recommended upgrade? I was initially going to upgrade with this size but then i had a talk with "BK Tyres, Lajpat Nagar", he said he would not recommend this size. So tyre gurus please suggest that is 205/55/R15 will be ok and would not cause any issues

2) In size 205/55/R15, I have options of PP2 (availability is issues), CPC2, S-drive (waiting of 10 days).
So CPC2 is available with BK Tyres.
Can gurus please let me know that out of these 3 which tyre is better for driving comfort.

FYI: Car would mostly be driven in metro cities and i am a modest driver( not so slow, not so fast).

He is offering buy back of my apollo : 2500
New Tyre of CPC2 : 5400

Can you give me a little more information on this like the buyback price, details of the wholesale dealer you were mentioning about? You can PM me the details if you dont want to post it in here. Thanks acidkill.

Hey GTO,

I just bought a vento 5 days back, i want to get my tires changed to get good grips on road and as well as ride comfort. you recommend 205/55 R15. wont the ride quality go down.

Any particular brand that could be recommended.

If only ride is concerned even then will you recommend the same.

re: Volkswagen Vento : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I got my vento's tyre changed to 205 55 R15 Yokohama. the ride is horrible. i went to goa from hyd, every small speed breaker line i had to literally stop before going. If i did not the car would bounce all over the place. Every pot hole where i could not slow the car would hit with such a thud, no comfort at all.

The car wobbled at high speed of 170 above. it was like driving a new verna. i guess 205 55 R15 is very bad choice.

Any suggestion guys. Would 195 60 R15 be good.

Yokohama makes multiple Tires - the most popular choices are

A. Drives - Economy and high mileage (read long lasting)
C. Drives - Silent ride and wet grip with a better than A.Drive Dry Gip
S. Drives - Performance tires with better than C. Drive Dry Grip but worse than C.Drive in Wet Grip. Lowest Comfort and relatively noisy compared to C and A Drives.

There are other tires too like ES-100, dB range and Advan range. You can get more details of positioning of the tires at

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-a...ml#post2022454
W/O knowing which tire you purchased, it is difficult to comment. The Wobble is not a tire problem but a balancing issue and will go away once you get your wheels balanced. For ride, try reducing 2 psi of pressure and check. It should improve dramatically.
all the best.
