I have been using Yoko S Drive 205/55/R15 for the past 2.5 years and is my first and best recommendation for all Vento / Rapid owners. I have covered 70K kms overall, with the first set lasting till 45K Kms, solid!


Stock tyre Size is 185/65/R15 , which has an aspect ratio of 120.25 mm.

195/60/R15 has aspect ratio of 117 mm, which is also practically the same.
205/55/R15 has aspect ratio of 112.7 mm, which also doesn't impact the stability, but ground clearance almost by 1 cm, which is notable.

Do know what you are really looking for while choosing the tyre. Happy up-sizing.

Stock tyre is 185/60 R15 in Comfortline and Highline variants. The second figure in tyre size label is the aspect ratio, example 60 in 185/60 R15.

185/60 R15 has a radius of 301.5mm
195/60 R15 has a radius of 307.5mm, an increase of 6.00mm in ground clearance
205/55 R15 has a radius of 303.25mm, an increase of 1.75mm in ground clearance

Surprisingly my 23k kms 2011 Vento hit line shod with stock Apollo acceler tyres have come to the end of its life. Not only that they keep developing punctures.

Out with the old in with the new. But which tyre. My driving is mostly 90% city and 10% highway. I need something comfortable but durable at the same time. And yes less prone to punctures. I would like to stick to the stock size of
185/60- 15.

What do you suggest.

Bridgestone Turanza ER 300. I changed about 7000km back. Wonderful ride quality and poise. A sea of difference from the Apollo Aceleres. A lot less noise too.

Only choice that comes to mind is Michelin XM2. They are very durable though being Michelin and comfortable as well. The dry grip is phenomenal whereas the wet grip with stagnant water ain't that good.

Question to those who have upgraded to 205/55/15 (more so on a polo)

When the car is fully loaded with pax ,does the rear tyre touch the car body ? Or does it dwell into the well easily (even though the tyres are wider)

I am planning a vento TDI DSG highline for next week
Should i keep the stock size and change it to a better brand so that my warranty is safe and intact ?
I just want more life and bit more comfort as most the travel is done on bumpy roads and not on highways.
I belong to kerala, so we have monsoon months and hot summer with lots of potholes
If Yokohoma, which one of it ?
Or any other brands ?

Go for stock Turanza ER 300. It will fulfill all your expectations without a fuss. It offers balanced grip, comfort, silence, FE and good durability & longevity, with no warranty violation. All other combinations are a compromise in one or more aspects IMHO.

I am afraid about warranty of suspension
My heart says a bigger tyre to bypass poor ground clearance of vento
But my mind is against an upgrade in size out of fear 😷

Suspension warranty is only 10k kms or 6 months.
Might as well upgrade right away if comfort is priority

There is Vredestein Sportrac 5 too. Available in 195/60 R15. Has excellent reviews. Dry grip, wet grip, handling, tread wear, et all.

A person used them on Fiat Linea, and has commented in there. After using for over 40000 kilometers, about half of the tread thickness was still left, as per that person.

Don't worry about the Thar-like look. It will make the stance very good looking, like how the cars will be in western nations.


If you want I can PM you more pictures.
There is absolutely no sidewall scrape issue even with 5 passengers + luggage onboard. The sidewall height is almost same and so ride quality & GC remain same. The compound of the S drives might give harshness though. The steering feel had improved a lot with the 205s. You can literally feel the wide contact area and the increased grip while driving. But, FE decreases by 0.5 to 1 Kmpl during sedate drives.
To sum up, if you don't really care about that 1 kmpl drop in FE, you can go for 205s eyes shut since it's more near to the stock parameters than 195s (which has more choices though).
