That's not true at all. Using this size for the last 40K kms (Continental CPC).

You will take a hit on fuel efficiency (1-2 km/l). I compensated that with a Race dynamic box which gives me more fuel efficiency than stock in the eco mode.

But I can say this - my 205s are super grippy. Had very rare ABS kick-ins after I installed them. They stop very well and I have a feeling of security at higher speeds.

you know all of these are conflicting demands FE vs enthusiastic, comfort vs longevity.

Thanks dark.knight for the input.

My Vento got her new shoes early this week. Michelin XM2 (195/60/R15).

I have just done city drives this week and I must say, the ride quality has considerably improved.

Hope highway drives will be more exciting.

Thanks for your inputs Nileshch.

Off topic: With RD box, do you ever drive in eco mode?! This is in my future budget plan, but, is there conclusive evidence that FE is better (other than in eco modes?)

Indeed, bad question to start with regarding FE vs enthusiastic drives. Considering all factors, seems like Mischelin XM2 or Yoko Earth are not bad choices (ruled out P3ST since road noise is not top priority). XM2's priced higher and more premium ? where as, Earth 1 is probably more long lasting ?

Since, I tend to drive on good roads, stretching a bit for XM2's, they should also last long I guess. I hope i will not loose out much on cornering ability.

Also, can I compare XM2 with Yoko AvS DB or they are different category of tyres altogether?

Will give a quick answer here - I drive in eco mode in city all the time. On highways for the most time except when there is moderate traffic (and the need to overtake is more frequent). I have conclusive anecdotal evidence of better FE in all modes except P2

I am not much of a help with the other brands as I have never tried them!

Hi DevSoms,

Were you able to finalise alloy wheels. I saw an advertisement (olx) for Polo OEM alloys(set of 4) for 18k. How much is the quote from tyre dealer for OEM VW alloys.

Regards.

Hi DevSoms,

That's a very good deal on OEM alloys. I am happy with the steel rim but may upgrade in couple of years along with tyres.

While scouting for alloys did you find new polo 16" alloys or Vento 15" alloys. I was planing to upgrade 14" steel spare with 15" steel wheel and tyres but price of steel rim (around 4k) at VW dealer was a deal breaker. I also checked with couple of tyre dealers but did not get positive response.

Please post some more pictures of Vento TSI Comfortline since we have very few on the forum.

Regards.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Need to change the stock Apollo Alnac 185/60. I've been happy with them but lately they're too noisy. 49k done.
Priorities: Grip, comfort and reliability.

Looking at 185/60 and 195/60. Couldn't convince my dad for 205/55.

The car is driven rather carefully over potholes and speed breakers usually. Unless they're out of our sight. Cruising speeds range between 100-130kmph and maybe over that occasionally. Hilly roads are usually devoured. Let's not forget fuel economy

185/60-
Michelin XM2 energy,
Continental CC5,
Apollo Alnacs( if nothing works out)

195/60-
Michelin P3ST,
Continental CPC2,MC5, ( what's the difference between them)
Apollo Alnac 4G/ 4GS,
Falken Sincera( dad's getting 50% discount but I haven't heard anything about them)
Yoko S drives

Since the sidewall height increases by 6mm with the 195s , will it improve or reduce handling? What about body roll? Will it increase? And by how much?

And besides,I love accelerating hard into corners.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello Guys,

My 2012 Vento TDI HL has just gone in for 75K Kms service (actually run 67K Kms) and I guess it is due for a tyre change (though the current tyres should be able to hold up for another 5K Kms).

I am currently running Michelin Primacy LC 195/60 R15. These tyres were installed after exchanging stock Apollo when the car had done about 1.5K Kms. So, Michelin PLCs have run for about 65K Kms with 5K Kms to go (I have extensively driven on really bad roads too) with no flat tyres.

I am now looking to change my tyres and I am wondering:

1. If I should go for 205/55 R15 instead of 195/60 R15. What are the downsides ? Is comfort and road noise compromised significantly ? I am no longer a "sporty" driver and don't take corners at high speed and this is not a requirement though I would want the handling to improve over 195/60s.

2. What are the best options for 205/55 R15 (Continental CPC, Yoko S-Drive) ?

If going for 195/60 R15 I would stick with Michelin XM2 or P3ST (which seems comparable to PLC).

Thanks for your inputs.

You're contradicting yourself! No longer a sporty driver but you still want the handling to improve?

1)Honestly, if you're happy with the Primacy LC, stick with the Primacy 3ST. XM2's are a downgrade.

2) Yoko S drives are very sporty/specialist tyres. With your current driving style, you may not need it.

3) CPC2 isn't in the market anymore. The Continental MC5 is the successor in the Indian market. They're present in both 195/60 R15 and 205/55 R15 sizes.
Very similar to the Primacy 3ST except in
-better steering feel
-slightly lower tread life

4) As far as 195/60 and 205/55 are concerned

-195s have 6mm higher sidewalls than stock.
This gives better ride comfort at the expense of increased sidewall flex(increased body roll)

-205s have 1.75mm higher sidewalls than stock. Less Tyre flex compared to 195

-185/60 ( stock size) still has the shortest sidewall and is my pick.

5) The wider you go, the tyre patch increases laterally and reduces longitudinally. Calculate it and find it out for yourself: http://bndtechsource.ucoz.com/index/...alculator/0-20

6) Wider tyres result in increased weight-increased unsprung mass reduces performance and fuel consumption

7) With the above link, you'll also realise that the wider tyres in consideration have the smallest contact patch! Smaller contact patches may increase risk of aquaplaning

8) In short, a good compound and design is what you need to look at and not necessarily a larger size!

PS: I still stick with the stock size but on BS Turanaza ER 300

These are my views. Hope it helps.

Let me clarify. 195/60 does have some body roll issues (especially with PLC) that I experience during highway drives and I am just seeing if I can improve on that with 205/55 even if I don't make good use of 205/55's capabilities. So, I understand you are suggesting stock size rather than 205/55 as a better option.

You mean reduces performance and increases fuel consumption ?

Problem is that Michelin P3ST is not available in stock size (185/60).

Since you're used to the PLC, the rubber compounds offered in the 185 section tyres would hardly appeal (probably)

And since 205/55 has a sidewall comparable to the stock, it should be on your list. 195/60 with the tall sidewalls is strictly a comfort size tyre. Not for handling.

Yes, it increases fuel consumption. My mistake!
But that's a price you pay for a better tyre compound.

But P3ST isn't available in 205/55 either. The other comparable tyre is the Continental MC5.

Do check the comparison by Taciturn right after the OP.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello folks,

Bridgestone MY02s have served me well for the last 47,000 Kms on my 2013 Vento TDI. On hard acceleration, I have been getting some mad wheel spins lately. Based on the tread, I believe it should do good for another 3 or 4000 kms. Do not want to take a chance though. Any recommendations? I was fairly happy with MYO2. I have stopped carving corners since a while now and usually do not exceed 120kmph on highways. Since most of my travels always have huge patches of rough roads, I would need something that has a reasonably strong sidewall and less susceptible to punctures(not sure if that's too much to ask for).

Thanks in advance for your help

I was thinking of BS Turanza ER 300 for few reasons, including the newly applied LL Carbon and O Bead II .
Also, the patterns look different and I personally like it.

I'm currently using XM2 and its going fine for the last 42K+ kms. However, I do the side walls getting chipped off and there are cracks on the tyres. Also, I see that the wheel spins often, when you accelerate a bit hard.Hence, I would want to change it now and thought of going with BS Turanza if thats a better option compared to XM2
