Continental MC5 was the tyres on my earlier car in 195-55/15 size. This was on the New Ford Figo Tdci. Excellent tyres and the tyres lasted till 50,000 kms without any issues. There was only one puncture through out this 50,000kms though this cannot wholly be attributed to the tyres alone. Luck also plays a part here. MC5 is a good balance between silence, comfort & grip levels. When I sold the car at 50,000kms, the other owner still ran the same set for 5k kms more before changing them. There was still 5k kms life left in it at the time of change as per the tyre dealer who changed his tyres. Almost 60,000kms on a 100bhp torquey diesel engined car is decent enough tyre life and grip levels never wavered by a huge margin even at 50,000kms. Hope this helps!

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Thanks for sharing your feedback. This is very promising indeed and the MC5 are a tad cheaper than the XM2 as well.
Any feedback about the stock Apollo tyres? How bad are those?
Also, if I go for a 205/55R16 instead of the 195/55R16, will the warranty be honored?
I am tempted to go for the Michelin P3ST instead of the XM2 but I dont want to take chance with warranty

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Apollo Alnacs are alright, decent tyres for the price. Infact, its the best among the Indian tyres for the Vento, but won't last long, at the max around 35000kms. Grip levels are okay. There is no need to replace the stock tyres when the car comes out of the showroom.

The best among stock sizes would be the Michelin XM2. Excellent grip and low road noise, and further last really long. Already completed 45000kms on one set and it still looks like it can go another 30000 to 40000kms.

Upsizing is not an issue for the warranty usually. Rarely, the dealer may reject suspension warranty on upsizing. But do remember that most of the suspension components which are likely to be damaged do not come under warranty, they are more of wear and tear items.

I changed from the Appolo Alnac to P3ST at around 35k. Tyre upgrade should not impact warranty in any way right? Or you mean the suspension warranty?

On a side note. Just took the 7th year add on warranty for my Vento tsi. There is a 7300 discount running so cost was 15k.

Thanks, I will check with the VW dealership about the warranty. Yes, I was talking about the suspension warranty. I did negotiate about free 5th year extended warranty along with the car purchase. I will probably take the extended warranty for 6th and 7th years later.

Coming back to the tire size, I was just checking the tyre comparisons here - https://tiresize.com/comparison/

As you know, the highline version comes with 185/60R15 = 23.7" overall diameter. The highline plus comes with 195/55R16 = 24.4" overall diameter. So, Highlines plus diameter is 0.7" (17.7mm) more which is significant. Does this mean Highline Plus GC will be significantly more?

Just out of curiousity, I also checked the Honda City which comes with 16" wheels (185/55R16) in higher variants compared to 15"(175/65R15) in lower variants. But, in that case, the overall diameters are almost same (24"). Thoughts?

Michelin Primacy 4 ST 195/55/R16 is available now. Just got it for my Vento TSI. Costed around 8000₹ per tyre at Lal and sons, Chennai.

Can you please post some pics of the car with the new tyres? Want to see how the wheel well looks with the added inch.

The stock size of Vento TSI from 2017 Sep has been 195/55/R16. Not sure if it changed later. I went for the stock size only. Had good year assurance before this.

Quoting from my previous post.
One of my neighbours have the Vento Highline with 185/60R15 tyres. So, I measured the height till the center of the rear wheel for both the highline and highline plus variants. The highline plus has ~10 mm more height than the highline variant. So, it basically means that the ground clearance of the highline plus should be 10mm more but VW mentions the same ground clearance for all models of the Vento (163 mm). It would have been good if manufacturers be more transparent about this important specifications.
Am I missing something?

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

my pirelli P1 195/60/15 are now nearing end, they have run around 28K km and have around 4-5K Km of life left, so i have started scouting for new tyres.

First option i am considering is 205/55 R15 continental MC5. It's around 6500 per tyre.

Other option i stumbled across is 205/50 R16 michelin PS4, i know i will have to change the rims, but i think this will give a good stance change to the car. These are around 7250 (though currently only one tyre is available)

https://www.amazon.in/Michelin-R16-9...9544251&sr=8-1

I have the vento 2015 model which came with 185/60/15.

What do the experts suggest which one to go for, i understand handling would be different with 16" and 15" would fit perfectly. The 16" also has an additional cost of getting new alloys, and another task of selling the current 15" alloys.

Looking forward to your suggestions.

I am using the Michelin P3ST for the last 10-15K KMs in the size 195/15. Very happy with the tyres. I had Yokohama AVS DBs before this. Michelins are almost as quite and has a very positive effect on steering directness and are acceptably comfortable too.

Thanks rachit, but i dont want the 195/15 anymore, i have done 28K+ km on them and now want to pick one of the above two options.

Logically 205/55 is the better choice as i don't need to change rims, but wanted to hear from experts if 205/5016 upsize will have any other benefits except a better looking stance.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello Everyone,
Could anyone please direct me to somewhere from where I can get OEM 16inch Alloys from for the Vento in or around Pune/Mumbai. Also, what would be the best size of tyre to go for with those alloys.

Thank You,
Akashdeep

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello everyone. Reviving this thread hopefully.

I have a December 2018 Vento 1.5 TDI with 13,500 kms on the odo & stock Goodyear 185/60 15 tyres on OEM alloys.

I am surprised that the rolling diameter difference has not seriously been discussed here & the resultant effect on engine rpm & speedometer/odo error.

185/60 15 = 60% of 185 = 111.00 mm effective dynamic radius

195/60 15 = 60% of 195 = 117.00 mm effective dynamic radius

205/55 15 = 55% of 205 = 112.75 mm effective dynamic radius
