Anyone interested in Bias ply tyres?

My buddy was talking about a tyre upgrade for his maruti 800.

He comes to me this morning with his new set of tyres.
On seeing it, I was .

The tyres were 12in MRF SW99 which I presume to be cheap and looooong lasting btw.

The grip was awful. But in corners, .

Anyone used them before?

I can totally relate to that! Had them in my Premier Padmini ages back, and the car I learnt to drive on. We used to have a lot of fun on empty land in Lonavla.

BTW, these are more popularly known as "cross ply" tyres. You'll see frequent references to them in our Vintage car section.

I think pretty much all cars have moved on to radials, but trucks and 2wheelers still use them.

A big HELL YES..............

I will take any number of cross ply tyres as long as they are available.

Looking for some nice 5.70/14 and 3.90/15 with white wall .

Sadly not much of whitewall cross ply available these days.

Re: Anyone interested in Bias ply tyres?

BUMP

Fast Forward 11 years from where this discussion trailed off, I have since then acquired another SS80 that is super original and I want to keep it that way. Recently, due to the rains I swapped out the MRF SW99 4.50-12 set for some Bridgestone B290 135/70 R12's from the Nano (Yes, I know it is a smaller OD, but honestly the 145's were looking too meaty, this is a temp solution while I hunt down some Bias-Ply's)

@PAVAN KADAM, Any leads on where and how to get my hands on a set of 5? I'm in BLR currently!

LEFT: Bias Ply; RIGHT: Radials
