Team-BHP - Egg shaped tyres

Just realized that my 12 year old first car and now third car's tyres have changed shape to become egg shaped.
The car is M800, run 57k km mostly in first 5 yrs of it's life. Changed all tyres once so far about 7 years back. The tread is all there, but the tread has bulged giving a very uneven ride.

Since this is the 3rd car, it barely runs some 40-50kms a month.
I guess the tyres have lost it's shape due to continuous standing.

Now since the drive is less than 500kms a year, I am wondering are there any alternative to getting brand new tyres. The car does not go beyond 4 km radius from home - mostly on occasional errands.

As your tyres are 7 yrs old, the rubber is getting dry and brittle. The tyres will ultimately balloon to a size as big as a rubber tube without a tyre. You should replace them ASAP.

No alternative to brand new tyres in your case except, 2-3 year old used tyres. You can also buy the cheap chinese ones. They are good enough for usage as described by you and more.

those chinese tyres are made from reprocessed rubber and cost less than 1600 per piece. go for those instead of the used ones since they might give up on you anytime.

Yeah, I intend to change the tires asap.The tires are steel belted radial tires, so I was surprised to see the bulges on the tread, and that too 3 tires have bulged in last two months or so. First I thought it is an alignment problem but as the wobbling increased rapidly it became more apparent.As I said it is the third car, I am the only person driving. The car is used only for domestic errands to local markets, where parking is an issue. I love something about M800, which keeps me from selling it away, maybe it's emotional. But even if I sell it, I doubt it will fetch much.Any idea on how much do used tires for m800 cost, and where to get these chinese tires?Wouldn't the branded indian tires be safer than the chinese stuff?

Even if the vehicle goes only 4 kms from base, please change the tyres asap. Risk of failure while driving is too much to take.

Finding decent used tyres for 800 should be difficult. 90% of the users use it for its 90% of life. Also you wont find many 800 owners swapping OEM tyres for wider ones. :D .

However, you can go for some cheaper brands which will cost you about 2k-a-piece. And for a start, not to be harsh on the pocket, change the front set first.

Do not go for retreaded tyres. Sidewalls will still be 7 years old.

7 years old tyres ? Definitely due for replacement.

If car is parked for long durations, then atleast over-inflate the tyres. Else, sell for what it is worth. Some one could put it to more use.

ST7677, brand name Maruti 800 tyres start at Rs. 2000 (or cheaper) each. Those 4 palm-sized patches your tyres maintain with the road can be the difference between life & death. A request : Please avoid used or cheap Chinese tyres, and go for brand new rubber from a reputable make.

You can try using higher pressure in the new set that you are about to buy. I am not sure but it may help in case the problem is due to continuous standing.

It;s not that eggy to be visible in a pic. When you rotate the tire freely, you can notice upto an inch variation at a particular point.

As the others said, it is due to the age of the tyres. Get either new tyres or removed tyres(very rare).

You can actually get Crossply tyres also if you want to cut down on cost.
