The stock tyres in the yard at the time of sale were MRF ZVTVs and hence I immediately changed the tyres on the day of delivery itself to 195/60R15 Michelin Energy XM2s.

Two of the tyres had to be changed as there were sidewall cuts on separate occasions leading to replacement and hence below is the configuration of tyres on the car currently:

The Tyre Tread Depth was measured using the Michelin MN-4203 Digital Tyre Gauge (URL) on the tyre on the different treads.

I recently got the tyres Wheel Balanced at Tyre Professionals, Bangalore and the experts there said the Tyres have not become hard and are in good condition. After I told them that couple of tyres have completed 50 K, they recommended that I check again after another 5,000 KMS and possibly change.

If I change it will be surely be Michelin Primacy 4ST - so that is kind of finalized.

• What do the experts here recommend - how much longer can I use these tyres?
  
• Should I change 3 tyres now and change the remaining 2 after another year as 2 of them are 4 years old only.
  
• Also, should I move the unused Spare tyre from the Steel Wheel to the Alloy and use it for a while?

In most parts of the world, tires are considered to be legally worn out when they reach 2/32" (approximately 1.6mm) of remaining tread depth. However, this tread depth is more applicable where the road conditions are much better both in terms of the condition of the road surface and general traffic conditions.

For Indian conditions, I would say that tires should be changed when the tread depth reaches 4/32 of an inch or 3.175mm or when the tires are six years old (from the date of manufacture and not from the time when tires came into service) whichever comes first.

Looking at the tread depth and age of your tires these should be able to give you another 5 to 10,000 kms of service. As for the spare either you can keep it as a spare or sell it at the time when you finally change all your tires.

If you do decide to sell your spare you would be well advised to rotate all your tire including the spare every 6 to 8,000kms so that you can get more out of your tires and have an even wear at the end of their service life.

I own a Hyundai Verna 1.6 VTVT - Petrol manufactured in 2014.

Total running till now has been 40000 kms. I am planning a road trip of 6000 kms in November.

Considering the road trip is there any requirements of changing the tyres.

I would be grateful if someone can help me on how to find out the wear and tear of the tyres to ascertain if it warrants change of tyre.

Tyre replacement is largely based on remaining depth of tread. The minimum acceptable tread depth is ~1.5 mm across the whole circumference and the central 75% of the tread surface. If your tyres are worn close to this depth, you need to change the tyres before embarking on a 6000-km roadtrip.

Your tyres are also ~5 years old, and you would want to have the sidewalls and tread surfaces inspected for cuts, cracks and bulges, before starting your drive.

In general, 40,000 km in a sedan like the Verna usually means the tyres are at the end of their life.

Please replace all 4 tyres. It will give you a complete peace of mind and iron out any grey area regarding your safety on road.

Tyres are 5 years old. If they are MRF then change immediately. My car recently suffered a tyre bulge in the main wall and not the sidewall. The car started jumping and bumping on the road. The tyres and car in question is MRF ZV2K 165/80 R14 and the car is 2012 Dzire run 38,000 km. I was driving at 80 km/hr when this happened. It was HORRIFYING. Old tyres despite tread CAN fail badly. Don't take any chances when you are on a 6000 kms trip.

IMO, tyre life of 5 years and 40k kms is good enough. More than tread wear, hardening of tyre compound over 5 years is a concern. My car has 5 year old tyres. The rubber has become hard and sidewalls show considerable wear/age. But I am holding on to them for some time as there are no long distance trips lined up.

For your particular case, I'd suggest you to get fresh rubber and then embark on your 6000 km journey with complete peace of mind. Never compromise on tyres.

Tyre market.com, changemytyre. Do read reviews on team bhp. Would recommend Yokohama Earth 1 or Michelin. I am using Yokohama after JKs they are extremely smooth.

Another bit of advice:
Don't change your tires just before or a week before your trip. Your new tires would be better after being bedded-in. Typically 300-500 km is a good distance.
In addition to websites, check the TBHP recommendations for tire shops.

I am looking at changing the stock tyres on my 2017 SX CRDI Creta in a couple of weeks.They are 205/65/16 and run about 40K with 75% highway and 25% city/village roads. Need help with respect to the brands and if upsize to 225/235 on stock alloys is advisable!

I have been using Ultramile UM551 tyres since 2016. My size is 205/60 R16.

I have happily covered 45,000 km so far without any problems at all. The tyres look good for at least another 25,000 - 30,000 km. This is a good tyre, go for it.

These days, Ultramile UM551 in 205/60 R16 size costs Rs. 3900 per tyre, with invoice, including GST, including valve and alignment. This is a very good price.

42000 kms on stock Apollos 175 70 R14. 2016 Jan manufactured.

Hardly any punctures so far. Touchwood. I find the ride harsh these days and i am sure new tyres will definitely make the ride quality better. However, would want to delay the purchase of new tyres as much as i can. No long trips planned until January 2020 by which i would be doing around 48000 kms on this set.

I would like to know if i will be unknowingly damaging any other suspension components or anything else because of driving on harsh tires? I am a fast driver and corner at a good amount of speed but my driving will be restricted to the city till Jan 2020.

Got the Ceat Czar for my 2014 Terrano XE in the stock size of 215/65R16. This is the 3rd set for the car. It was on Goodyear AT prior to this and those served me really well for for 81,xxx kms.

The car is not driven much anymore and the sole reason for opting for Ceat was the cost. This was the cheapest option available, I paid 6500/tyre.

It’s absolutely fine to continue using your tires till your deadline of Jan 2020. However, it is prudent to get the tires first checked for any cracks, thread wear etc. If all is well, you can even postpone your purchase for couple of months beyond January. Don’t worry about suspension damage.

The braking and ride quality will improve by leaps and bounds post change. I would advise you to change them RIGHT NOW, as you have no ideas to dispose the car. Prepone your tire purchase by three months and enjoy the next 6000 KM also on the new rubber.

Your driving style certainly warrants new tyres. City or highway your tendencies can get the better of you anytime despite restraint.

A lot depends on the vehicle and your style of driving. Do not let the treads wear to under the legal limit. I fact i will keep 2mm as the safe limit.
