The name is vaguely familiar. I have possibly heard this name in my childhood from my great grandfather who previously lived somewhere near Shikarpur, Sindh Province (undivided India, now in Pakistan)

The board next to the "Rehman Cap & Mfg Co" further supports my theory.

Subject to correction, of course..!

Pontiac or Oldsmobile. If a Pontiac this would be a Silver streak

Many thanks to Nigel (deutscheafrikar) for confirming that this Company is located in Karachi and still active today.

Rehman Cap & Hat company - Résumé | Facebook

As per their Facebook page the company was founded on Sep 19, 1948, so this pic was taken after that. The car was probably quite new when this pic was taken.

My grandmother confirms that my great grandfather had to make a few follow up trips, post independence to settle matters with business associates, sell off what property was not already looted etc; and this is probably when he came in contact with this company.

Thanks for an interesting pic, Harit !!

To my untrained eye, it looks more like a Pontiac. Cannot be certain, but behind the @Harit watermark it looks to have circular tail lamp lenses. I don't remember seeing any Olds in this era with circular tail lamps.

A very nice car, indeed.
Then the radio on his car is not of correct period . That's all.

That's an Oldsmobile for sure . 46/47 and not a Pontiac . See two characteristic is the Center monogram on the rear boot and close scan and it's square not round and who took away the stripes

Cheers

I seem to be gobbling away a lot of cars & parts, of late, don't I..?!

Yes, upon closer examination it does look to be a square tail lamp. And the lack of stripes would make this an Olds.

Harit bhai, 'Beauty, they say, lies in the eye of the beholder'

Nice photograph, but is not a Pontiac which would have had a 'chromed metal band down the middle of the hood and trunk'.

Re: Pre / Post War Pontiac

A Pontiac Eight that stopped to cool down - although it looked well maintained / restored, it was far from original. The glasses, interiors, door handles, door pads and lot of details do not seem original. I would have expected chrome lining on the windows and the windshied.

Thanks - I think this car belongs to leader of the Bohra community, Syedna. He has some more lovely classic cars including a huge 1950s Caddillac. This particular Pontiac I think has had the roof altered, possibly for some ceremonial reason?

Re: Pre / Post War Pontiac

Saw this Pontiac after a while. Ex Poonawalla family, sold a few years back. I think Grand Parrissiane or thereabouts.

Karl, is this the same Pontiac that is parked along with a silver Porsche (Carrera?) off Baner Road? I see it every day through their gate.

Cheers,
Rahul

Yup, thats the one, though I don't remember a Porsche, but then again, never had a close look.

She used to be a lovely deep green earlier.

Hi Venkrish,

Wow seeing ur car after almost 20 plus yrs. Had seen it last in the Krishna Oberoi event. The best part seems to be that the car seems in almost same nick. well think it just needs brake ,suspension ,starter, dynamo, raidiator, hub service, replacement of hoses and a very through engine tune up.If the paint , upholstery and most nickel can be left original (preserved so to say) and new set of tyres(white walls) and a new battery should see you thru. Am also in Hyderabad , i stay on hill fort road ,naubath pahad, and my telephone no is 98490 65135. I would love to see the car .
GOOD LUCK and Best wishes, hope to see the carin ship shape

Re: Pre / Post War Pontiac

You are welcome to see my restored Silver Streak in Chennai & talk the restoration over if that would help in any way.
