Finding a good engine head is going require a lot of patience.

Cheers

He's on a look out for the engine, i too have spread the word, the car might get lucky soon.

Re: My TVS Heritage Motor Rally July 24,2011

Guys, it is evident that the car in question was painstakingly restored by DKG. There may be some issues which cropped up later, common with any vintage restoration. Let us not speculate further, and enjoy the pictures instead. Thanks!

Re: My TVS Heritage Motor Rally July 24,2011

Guys if you have a question about MDR 200 why don't you just ask me? I honestly missed this thread until a well wisher called to say there was a lot of loose talk floating about on the car.

During the restoration of MDR 200 every nut and bolt was undone, corrected for wear and loads of new parts imported to restore the car to its original spec.

At the time of rebuilding the engine I was aware the head was on its last leg but as it seemed to have no cracks we completed the build and the car worked fine on a few test runs here in Hyderabad and in Chennai. I was there when we participated in the last rally. During subsequent runs in Chennai our service personnel there noticed water on the plugs and I asked them to take the head off to inspect it and sure enough it had blown a sizeable hole through one of the valve chambers. We tried to close the hole through welding but the cast iron head had corroded so much from inside that the walls were almost wafer thin. I decided it was a waste of time to try and repair this head and chose to hunt for a replacement head for the engine. We located a couple of heads in the US but they all tested with cracks and unfit as a replacement. I have located one more and am waiting for the head to be cleared of cracks

Once we find a good used replacement head we should be able to get MDR 200 back on the road. If any of you resourceful gentlemen can help me find a complete engine or head I would be obliged.

Its unfortunate this has happened and MDR 200 couldn't participate in the recent rally.

Re: My TVS Heritage Motor Rally July 24,2011

I was in Casa Major Road that day, just a few blocks away from Don Bosco!! We were called out of the building by some excited friends. The cars had just started leaving in a procession. It was a pleasant sight on a lazy Sunday morning to watch these vintage beauties puttering along. I remember, one of these had stalled and was being pushed away to clear the road.

I wasn't following the newspapers or event schedules. Had I known about this, I would have surely dropped in earlier in the morning!

Always get a warm feeling when I see those old Madras registration numbers

Re: My TVS Heritage Motor Rally July 24,2011

After a very long time, I viewed TEAMBHP today. I want to put to rest the MDR 200 matter. I was never involved in the restoration of this car, nor I own it.It is still with TV Sundaram Iyengar & Sons. Sharat of Sundaram motors casually discussed the engine head problem with me. That's it & nothing more. They are trying to source a head for the car.

Thanks for the compliments regarding the cars owned by me and those restored by my company TEAMCSA

Mr. Ananth, this is in response to your post (TVS Heritage Motor Rally).

I am interested in Teamsca, which I understand is your restoration company. I own a 1968 Triumph Spitfire Mk III and am hard pressed to find reputed restorers.
