2003/2004 VCCCI rally Pune

Hello friends,

Few days back happen to bump across a photo album of a VCCCI rally held in Pune some time in 2003 or 2004. This event was held at Taj Blue Diamond. Since these pictures were taken on a Film SLR do not have a trace of actual year of the event. Experts may confirm looking at the pictures. I had gone there along with fellow Roadshakers. Another thing that I remember is that the Yezdi club was also called for this event for official participation. I have not hidden the number plates and faces of the people as this was a public event.
May be there are few owners of these beauties on the forum. My favorite is the 190 SL and the AJS bike.

Amazing how many cars have been restored and in such a good condition. Is there any national register of cars restored in the country?

Okay nice pics. Thanks for sharing.
The AJS you like, happens to be a Zundaap Side valve.
The Merc & Cheverolet 1927 belonged to Irfaan of Toyato motors bandra. My Mitra Mahesh Powale drove the Chevy and his brother Milind is seen driving the Merc. BMW single has been posted by Karl in the bmw thread. The rudge single with open valve s was ridden by Sadiq from mahim and I think it used to be with ACP Dangle at that time. But not sure who the owner was or is. The triumph looks familiar maybe Sajid was repairing it, owned by someone from bandra. The BSA Karl will tell you who's it is.

Thanks for sharing the pictures - this event was the summer of 2004. Pune used to regularly have events back then, unfortunately not anymore.

The bike is not an AJS, but a Zundapp. A group of bikers from Hyderabad had come down specially for the event. Good times.

Amongst the other cars seen,

The Mercedes 190SL is now black
The silver Jaguar XK120 is now in Jaipur
The silver Rolls has changed hands, now with a BHPian in Bombay
The Mercedes 170V roadster was sold to Delhi last that I know
The maroon BMW bike is with a BHPian too
The black Impala I was told was sold to Kolhapur and then the top was chopped
The blue AP Buick is since sold, I do not know current whereabouts
The maroon Pierce Arrow is of the Mallya collection
Yellow Beetle was sold shortly after the event, one of the best around

Re: 2003/2004 VCCCI rally Pune

Hello Deutscheafrikar ,

Hmmm... you bring back a lot of memories with those photos.

By some chance, would you have photos of a Silver & Black BSA M20 that won the prize for the best restored motorcycle? Incidentally it beat the Rudge Whit Worth.

I stil have that BSA M20, unfortunately back in 2004, I was skint and did not own a camera.

The AJS in indeed a Zundapp 500 SV twin, it is owned by an old time friend called Victor.

There is a photo of Victor and me astride that machine, in the local rag, we won the 1st prize then and the rally was at a place near Saras Baugh.

The Triumph was Anil Bhingarde's - if my memory is still what it used to be.

Take care and stay well.

Reg,

BB

Re: 2003/2004 VCCCI rally Pune

Nice to see this Zundapp again! A friend of mine has photos of this same motorcycle owned by her father in the late 70s or early 80's in H'bad, pretty much in the same condition as far as the pics can portray. I'm not too sure (haven't asked him) but I think maybe he passed it on to Mr. Victor himself sometime in the 80's.

Cheers,
Rahul

Re: 2003/2004 VCCCI rally Pune

It used to be nice going to poona for their rallies. For some years now I dont recall there being a rally in poona. How come? Poona guys do something. The last couple of years have seen the Jadhavgarh rally and then a show at Symbiosis. Anyone out there listening?? Karl, I was told you are now active in the VCCCI and planning the next bombay rally to be held the day after the cartier2013 bash? Please re start the Poona rally to enable us to see the beauties there .

Wow, that's news to me! I have not so far been involved in planning/organizing any VCCCI event (nor have I been asked), though I keenly attend and enjoy all of them.

I completely agree with you for Pune - we are missing the bus. We haven't had VCCCI events for years, I believe permissions are a problem. We also have not had the MASA events in a long time - first was swine flu, then commonwealth games, some hurdle or the other. The Jadhavgadh events are nice, though this year has not yet happened, and its a bit of a distance to get to.

Re: 2003/2004 VCCCI rally Pune

My apologies Karl. It seems I was given the wrong information. Actually I was happy that you youngsters were finally taking interest in VCCCI activities. SAd that this is not so.I was given to understand that a team of four , you being one of them, was given the responsibility of organising the club rallies, prizes etc. Why not do something independently in Poona? Surely permissions cant be the excuse? Enough enthusiasts exist in Poona who can work to make things happen? Otherwise you can always just plan drives. If paper work is in order there is no problem driving your cars from point A to B. Just follow Kasli:s example. From a handful of guys on the first drive, he now has fun drives to Mahableshwar with guys clamouring for the next one.

I too have heard that some youngsters are to get into VCCCI, many happen to be on this forum, Karl, Amal, Aniruddh, Marezpand and Yash the secretary. This can only help to get some order and grow.
As I have mentioned some months earlier, one of the best rallies which I took part was in Pune, fun place and a nice drive to reach there. The only drawback was that the dinner was held on Sunday evening, most of us wanted to be back home by then. Karwale events are better in that way. If Mumbai VCCCI rally is to be held immediately after the Cartier event, it will be nice for quality cars and numbers, but Cartier have to finish their event by Saturday evening. The cars would have to be stored for a while, perhaps at Sasoon Docks or CCI Brabourne stadium.

If the above were not to be true, that would be unfortunate. But we are used to instantaneous decisions and changes being taken/made, like office bearers or dates for events, etc.

I would support that, do organise drives in Pune, and invite everyone who is an enthusiast. I would get a car to take part. And we'll get to know the Pune enthusiasts better. VCCCI has sort of withdrawn from Pune, and I heard that WIAA has also shut down in Pune and the premises are to be deposed off.

Cheers harit

OH? How come MASA and not VCCCI? Unfortunately I am not this side of the country on that day, but my car will participate, driven by a friend. Are you going Harit? I am informed that a certain very nice looking Beetle [ blue ] is planning to go.

I just saw your post. Unfortunately I have no photos of your M20. Maybe the VTEC guy has.
