PICS : ’88 VCCCI Rally & ’85 IARC Vintage car & motorcycle Fiesta

I have couple of albums of a few Vintage rallies that I went to many years ago. I thought I should scan them and share it on the forum. Also Promised Karl a long time ago that I'd do this. Harit, I don't if you were at the starting point of the rally I stood at Ramada Inn Juhu and then near Mithibai college. In those years the cars used to pass by through bandra and it was a fun thing waiting on the road. I missed a few cars, but back then didn't have a colour camera and this belonged to a friend. The year was 1985 and I think it was called the IARC Vintage ...

re: PICS : ’88 VCCCI Rally & ’85 IARC Vintage car & motorcycle Fiesta

One of my neighbours Sidharth N. who was about 3 at that time knew so much about old cars came along and sat on the dicky of the white fiat parked there in the first pic. He used to exchange car mags with me especially the motor trend and only wanted it for the retrospect article. He was the eat drink and sleep cars type of kid. Just like guess who?
The lady in the few pics seemed to be amused by this cracked guy clicking photos

Ahaa Wasif I forgot I had promised you the pics too.
You're welcome
I think BMW 2022 is a 1930 Chrysler 2.6 ltr,
16 is a 1937 Bantam
32 is a 1934 Morris
This lot of pics it's easy, just take the mouse over the image and
name of the photo will give you the details of year make and owner
of the vehicle but unfortunately not so for all that will follow

Yep in the corner cos didn't want to spoil the pics incase someone wants to save.
I couldn't find the highlighter hence not florescent

Only Fiats and Ambassadors in the back ground with these old cars. Lucky guy to have the surname of Readymoney, who owned the Norton in the last photo...

Thanks for the pictures, they are a treat. It is especially noteworthy to see so many of the cars are still with the same owners, nearly 30 years on!

I particularly liked the 48 Lincoln - I assume this is the car now MAS registered, of late JM Chudasama? Where is the Chrysler now, and does it survive? What about the Bantam?

You're welcome Karl
Yep I think you may have something there. It should have read MAS 8430. Why did it have the old plates? I've been looking at these photos continously and I feel I can now recognise by the number plates. Maybe you have a list of car and reg numbers somewhere.
Looking at the first pic I can recollect the moment Farad passed by on the AJS I yelled out but I'm sure he didn't know who screamed
No idea about the Chrysler or the bantam. Maybe we need to snoop around and find out. What is the car behind 1514 in the last pic? Can you make out the number?

I shall chose to ignore that high-lighter remark, doen't apply to me

The Chrysler is in fact a roadster, dicky seater which belonged to Vinci Wadia, of the famous cinema family. The car was kept at their residence on Worli Seaface. It was very corroded, and changed hands, now with a collector from Peddar Road. I have not seen that car for years, but I am sure that she survives.

The Bantam belongs to Solanki, still with him and being restored.

The Lincoln is ofcourse the Chudasama car, re-registered when she came to Mumbai.

Lets see some more colour pictures from that time. They seem to be a bit faded, maybe something to do with storage and moisture, or exposure to day light.

Cheers harit

Its not too clear, but I think that is the same early AJS that has been attending rallies in Bombay and Pune last couple of years after being restored. I think it was BMW 806.

Yes, could barely recognise Peter. And I think the last car is a 1927 Fiat Tourer that is still entered in events, I think registered MFA 1927.

MMF7449 (here I go again) is not a 300"S". It's a 300 Cabriolet. Not an S but even internationally a desirable car in the cabrio avataar.

Nice nostalgic pictures . These pictures have their charm even after so many years, Mumbai roads with less traffic is evident from golden years photos.

Even tough I have very little knowledge of vintage cars I enjoyed seeing every photo .
