There was an article in Pune mirror on vintage rally on Sunday (23rd December) in Pune. But it didn't mention the time or the route. Any idea about the time and the route guys?

The entry form says the venue is the Radisson Hotel, Nagar Bypass Road, Kharadi, Pune. Time of assembly is 7am, and time of flag off is 9 am.

I'm glad to see the event return to Pune after a long gap. Being in December the weather should also be good. I will be participating with a 1956 Triumph Tiger 100.

Karl, is there a route planned? Would love to make it to the assembly point, but in case I miss it I'd like to catch up on the way somewhere.

The route is usually not disclosed untill flag off, but we can expect the route to pass through Bund Garden, Kalyani Nagar, Koregaon Park etc as its the logical route from Nagar Road.

Why don't you participate? Some great Jawas often take part.

kasli, the newspaper cutting refers it the Mulund festival, organised by some local committee. They were looking to display ten to fifteen cars . This had nothing to do with the Poona rally this morning. No pictures or news of the Poona rally, but I believe the fabulous 1947Buick from Rajasthan failed before reaching the venue and had to be trucked back to the owners garage. Sad, but these things happen. I remember one of thebombay rallies when my car, driven by a friend suffered from a fuel pump failure and had to await a recovery van.

This mornings edition of the Indian Express has a write up about yesterdays rally in Poona. 200 people were present, the ROYAL Silver Wraith is pictured. This time the story is that the car was owned by Lord Mountbatten and subsequently, by Jawaharlal Nehru. When will these tales stop I wonder??According to records accessible to the public, this car was bought by the British government for the use of the last Viceroy. Neither did Lord Mountbatten OWN it, nor did Panditji. Its a pleasing car which does not really require fabricated stories to enhance its appeal. When will these stories stop I wonder?

Was really glad to attend this event in Pune after a gap of so many years. I enjoyed myself, the venue was nice, perfect time of the year as well, though I didn't do the whole route - Pune's roads are notoriously bad, and afternoon heat and traffic didn't help. Was good to see a couple of cars come down from Bombay, but bikes were few in number, unfortunately with some notable absentees. I was enjoying myself on a 1956 Triumph Tiger 100, met new and old friends.

Military Royal Enfield seemed completely original and fantastically preserved. I loved it.







Fiat Arditta was a regular, and looked superb.

Our dearest Khodu uncle was back behind the mike, keeping everyone entertained. He is a national treasure! Here he is flagging off the oldest entry, a 1923 Rover.

Mercedes 450 SLC was apparently owned by John Travolta at some point

Mercury is a well known Pune car, that I'm told when with the original owner would very regularly do trips to Mahabaleshwar, and annual trips to Ooty. Under the current owner she even did the Jewel of India rally from Delhi to Bombay


MGB cabrio is astonishingly original, down to interiors and apparenlty even tyres!








Two Minis were in attendance





Our dearest Minoo Fitter is an inspiration - at 76 years young, he rode down to Pune from Bombay on his 1960 Vespa (that he bought new) just to attend the event.

Smart Riley has now returned to Pune. If I remember right this car has been in Hyderabad, Bombay, Pune, Kolhapur and now back to Pune.

1923 Rover was the oldest entry, and looked simply delightful.


A new chinese London cab was also present, as was a Toyota Celica




Only 2 scooters present. The red one is apparently an import, being a 4 speed, and apparently with the owner from new.

Great pics Karl! It was nice to meet you at the venue. BMC 935 was lovely!

Were the Bullets, Norton etc parked on the other side of the hotel? I didn't see them with the Triumphs.

The Herald drained her battery and refused to start. She was later pushed all around that parking lot in vain. But I must say she seemed so well turned out!

Did most of the cars complete the run? The two Speed Twins sounded very healthy, hope they made it?

The bikes trickled in later, some even after the run. They were all in the same spot.

The Herald had trouble initially, but later was up and running on her own steam, I did see.

The "John Travolta" 450 is an SL (R107) with the Hardtop if i am not wrong.. not an SLC (C107), as mentioned.
