My Families very first car was a 1950 Morris Minor Convertible that I learned to drive in. In 1952 our family of 5 drove from Windsor, Ontario all the way down to Miami, Florida to spend the Christmas with close family friends.

It was a great trip, lots of adventures, a beautiful three day drive each way and as I recall, my Dad who liked to keep records, said he averaged about 38 miles per US gallon and with the cost of petrol about .18 cents, the cost was around $35. for the 2,400 miles we had driven.

When we got a bigger car, the Morris Minor became my twin brother and my car that we "souped up" and did some minor customizing. My Lots of great memories!

Much later in life I purchased a 1964 blue "Woody" Morris Mini wagon that was such a delight to drive in the hilly streets of Montreal. One of the few cars I wish I had been able to keep.

As my Bengali wife and I have been coming to Calcutta for the past 40 years, ten years ago I just about purchased a 1958 Morris Minor Sedan but as it was not in that great shape so I purchased a 1964 Fiat from the same gentleman who had to sell one of his two cars and I felt it would be more practical as a daily driver.

However my Heart belongs to Morris and I thought it would be nice to start a Gallery of the Morris Cars of India.

Please indulge me with my post of our 1950 Minor with me behind the wheel, followed by the many Morris Cars I've seen and photographed here in India.

I've started posting Morris Cars post WW 2 and will post some of the earlier models once I confirm that they are indeed Morris.

It would be interesting to know which is the oldest Morris in India.

A lovely thread , Thank you john for collecting all the WBD registered cars in one place.

As you can make out from my handle we used to own a pristine WBD 8775 which was sadly scrapped in 92 , when we bought new cars.

It was bought by my grandfather new , and had a genuine 35k miles when sold.

I would also like to add some more information about Nuffield Palace the property of Sir William Richard Morris alias Lord Nuffield, founder of Morris Motors, which was up for sale in September 2008. The property housed a Medical Institution and a museum with memorabilia being kept intact.
History would have been obliterated had the property been sold, but activists including the many Morris Car Fan Clubs were up in arms and ultimately good prevailed over and the turbulent times were gone.
The Morris Centenary celebrations are being planned with the property as a focal point this year.

I lastly had received a mail from Ms Joanna Gamester, Keeper of Nuffield Place, a few months later saying that the turbulence was over and Nuffield Palace will remain as a Museum.

I've started another Thread for Non Indian Morris cars and would request the Mods to move these photos to that thread.

While I tend to be a purist on keeping the cars as close to original. my alter-personality loves the customized and Hot Rods.
