A Fiat was booked in 1960, and here is a letter announcing it is soon to be delivered, in 1962.

The cost of the car was Rs. 11,575
White wall tyres were an additional princely Rs. 50
A luggage carrier costed 85, while 'elevated' number plates cost Rs. 55.

Here is an ad from the agents for Fiat in India, A Hyland Ltd. It talks specifically of the car's suitability for India, and prices start at Rs. 2295 (possibly for the 6HP? Its not clear enough to read).

The two ads are from Delhi and Bombay respectively, but both state ex-plant and exclusive of taxes

You could buy a new Model A Ford Tourer for Rs. 2,525, and a "new fashion 6 window 4 door" model for Rs. 3,350. I assume this was around 1928/29.

A Buick cannot be so much cheaper than a Model A Ford. That is the year, 1930, probably in an older style of writing numerals.

This is a superb advertisement, it gives a very good idea of the dominant community at that time in Kolkata (even today). I love the way the ad invites the Marwadi community and other Indians (as they are called).

In 1924 you could buy a small 8hp Rover for 3500 Rupees. Probably similar model to the survivor in Bombay. I don't know of any other similar survivors.

Don't remember if this was posted before, doing the rounds again.

1927 prices starting at Rs. 1900 for a commercial chassis and going up to 3800 for a Landaulette. Come to think of it, never seen a Chevy Landaulette.
