We have seen many ads of A. Hyland advertising FIAT cars. The two door Balila sedan (pre-war) was priced at Rs. 2570. Other cheaper models started at Rs. 2295.

In 1994 my grandfather bought a brand new 118NE for Rs. 2,44,150/- from The Ram Agency - dealers for Premier Automobiles.

I hope this information will be useful to 118NE owners to assist transfer between states.

Here is a lovely ad I assume from the late teens or early 20s, advertising the Ford 'Zenana' car for Rs. 4,200.

Cross posting from the VW Thread (Classic Volkswagens in India)

Here is an Invoice of a 1967 VW1300, imported into South India.

Cost was GBP 470. In 1967 INR was 21.7356 for 1 GBP (Source)

Hence the cost of the car in 1967 was INR 10,216.

This period ad was shared by Adil Darukhanawalla. Its undated but I guess from the 60s. A Bullet is Rs. 3430, and the smaller Ensign is Rs. 1890.

Re: Cost of classic cars when new? Pics of invoices included

Cross posting from here (Dealerships, Coachbuilders, Vehicle Assembly in India)

In the 1920s (?) a Maxwell "Royal Blue Tourer, Duco finish, full balloon tyres" costed Rs. 4,250. The "Red Sports" retailed at Rs. 4,950 and the larger Chrysler Six was Rs. 6,500. Disc wheels costed an additional Rs. 50 - if I recall correctly, Chrysler and Maxwell cars were the amongst the first to offer disc wheels to production cars.

This bullet nose model I assume is 1951? Quite a sharp increase for 2-3 years. Interesting that the two door is illustrated - a couple of older 46/47 coupes survive in Bombay.
