In 1982 ,such was the demand and huge waiting period for the Bajaj scoters that my father had to buy a second hand 1975 model Bajaj 150 scooter for a sum of Rs 7500 which was incidentally the price for a new Priya scooter .

In 1987 again my Dad booked a Bajaj Chetak scooter by paying in Foreign Exchange for a sum of Rs 7800/- Upon reaching the residence after getting the delievery of new scooter ,he was offered a sum of Rs 12800 or a premium of Rs 5000 /70% of original price of new vehicle .

In 1988 ,we had bought a maruti 800 for a sum of Rs 82000/- but sold out for a profit of Rs 5000.

Going back to 1962 ,one of my uncles asked my grandfather to get him a brand new Fiat which used to cost Rs 10000/-. My grandfather refused to gibechim money as he had no cash but instead agreed to give my uncle his share in ancestral agricultural land.Such was my uncle's love for Fiat car that he sold his share of the agricultural land on the national highway for a princely sum of Rs 10000/- and bought his first fiat car.

In 1985 ,my uncle was one of the first owners of Maruti 800 in chandigarh which he bought for Rs 55000/- .After driving it for nearly 4 years he sold that out for Rs 80000/- in 1989 and bought a brand new Premier 118 NE as he considered it to be the original FIAT car for Rs 193000/- .

Although the government has reduced the taxes on cars and other vehicles ,yet the prices of vehicles have increased manifold in last 3 decades due to various other factors .

Although it may seem that the prices of cars have increased manifold when you consider money value (Purchasing power parity) the prices are less than what it was 3 decades back,due to lesser taxes,mass production,competition and compromise on quality being the factors
