Maharaja cars are still flavour of the month - shortly after Pebble Beach, next year's prestigious Retromobile show will feature a Maharaja Class, and they are hoping for cars from India as well. Exciting times!

This piece appeared in an Auto India issue earlier.

If it was the good luck of the Americans to see some of the finest of maharaja cars at the last edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, for all those who missed out there will be another grand chance. Europe’s most prestigious classic car event, Paris’ Retromobile for its 2014 edition (scheduled for February 2014) will focus on a special showcasing of a dozen or so of the most amazing cars of the maharajas. It will be an opportunity for automotive enthusiasts and students of history to examine the particular role the cars played in the culture of the Maharajas & Their Cars for Paris royalty and provide a fascinating insight into a changing society, through the history of the maharajas’ cars. This special show “les joyaux automobiles des maharadjahs” (The Automotive Jewels of the Maharajas) will be the focus of Retromobile 2014 just like the Mullin Automotive Museum’s French Curves corner at the 2012 edition of Retromobile (featured in the March 2012 issue of Auto India). Owners and custodians of cars with Indian royal provenance are invited to write to the organisers of Retromobile at francois.melcion@comexposium.com

Apart from this car, the Retromobile in Paris is one of my favorite classic car exhibitions in Europe.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit, please do and allow for a full day! There is that much to see. Oh, and bring your woollies. This exhibition tends to be early February and you could find yourself in real miserable snowy cold weather.

What a stunning car. If I remember correctly from what I had read, it was bodied by Castagna. Also seems to be amongst the most photographed Isotta; several classic car books feature this particular car.

While the Isotta Tipo 8 series may not have been a masterpiece of engineering like the Hispano H6, the sheer length of their chassis made it possible for coachbuilders to make some of the most elegant bodies ever.

P.S. I did not remember correctly Reading the .pdf file later now I know that it was Cesar Sala and not Castagna, though the latter also bodied Isotta's.

Bulldogji, I sure if you make up your mind you can enter one of your cars from your worthy and wonderful collection. It will be exciting to have you in the limelight too!

The beautiful 1930 Delage D8 with Figoni body of Dr. Ravi Prakash,( Ex Maharaja of Holkar/Indore) will surely participate on its way back to India. Will be keen to see how she looks now after all her travels . Doc is excited as he informs that the grandsons of Delage and Figoni are expected to come to see the car.

Out of all the people in India i know, Doc and Titus are the most passionate when it comes to these cars.

great to know that they are participating in Retromobile 2014.

As for me, I am happy enough just using them as daily runners, dents scratches and all.

Tweetie bird tells me that a Topolino is to be taken to Retromobile not for the Maharaja class but maybe on a Fiat stand. Does anyone have some more info?
