Re: Maharaja cars at Retromobile 2014, Paris

If you would have noticed in the youtube and pictures, the Delage is missing. Well, the Delage did not make it due to some procedural issues

What a disappointment for all us, Doc was very sad. At least RR was there

If Harit's Humber is KOREA 3, I would presume that Inder's RR is KOREA 1. Wonder which car is KOREA 2? Guess the answer lies with Harit!
Cheers

Same mediocre quality, but all of our cars are in this one.

Amongst all the rollers, the poor little Humber attracted the most attention.

it seems only in India do we think there is no better car than a Rolls. the visitors at Retromobile spent the least amount of time looking at the rollers, the Humber really caught everyone's eyes.

lessons to be learnt for many of us

Re: Maharaja cars at Retromobile 2014, Paris

Very nice topic, and as I said before the Retromobile exhibition is absolutely worth a visit. I'd rate it as the second best classic car show in Europe. Only the yearly classic show in Essen is more elaborate and bigger.

Still, this is a very nice and attractive show. Haven't been for quite a number of years. Would love to go again. The one thing I remember from previous visits is that although the exhibition is excellent the food and drinks facilities were quite appalling! You might not expect that in France, but apparently the French take their food so seriously that they won't even bother trying to serve anything decent at a car exhibition. Food in Essen is always really nice. Plain, very German, but very good, tasty and not expensive and with local brew as well.

BTW, nice to see the Swan-car from the Dutch Louwman museum in the Hague.
I did see that one not too long ago:

Re: Maharaja cars at Retromobile 2014, Paris

The Humber is indeed a fine looking car and definitely merits a closer look than any of the others.

Would love to see pics of its engine and interiors. What is its history, is it recently restored or in original condition. Was it in regular use by the royal family.

It looks especially regal with the landau section folded down !

Here are some pic from the net. Where are our dear members who were are the show and when do we get to see their pics and read about the event.

Chassis 66 H9 Barker Barrel Tourer (Nawab Moin-ud-Din Dowla)

Chassis GPK33 G.Wylder Special Saloon (Bharatpur)

Amazing that two of the Nawab's cars showed up....a la Pebble Beach 2012, with two Rajkot and two Kashmir cars.
Imagine if that Ex Moin ud Dowla Blue / Black Phantom was also at the show, remember the pics I sent you with the Nawabs family crest still on the car !

I think you meant to say Cream and Black (Phantom I, Chassis 74OR).

The original colours I understans were "Oak Grain" throughout, including wheel discs. This of course was faux woodgrain paint.

That indeed is a handsome car.

Re: Maharaja cars at Retromobile 2014, Paris

Because they belonged to the Royal family of the State of Korea in India not the ones near Japan.

Traditionally cars belonging to royal families in India bore red plates with the State name on them and a number for that particular car.

You can see the Nabha car has a NABHA 200 plate so it was the 200th car in the Nabha stable.

Korea 1 because that was a Rolls-Royce and self assigned. Korea 3 because 1 was "taken" and the figure "2" was not available with the guy who made the number plate. Korea refers to the state of Korea, also sometimes spelt as Koriya, located in central India Chattisgarh.

I doubt that Nabha ever had 200 cars!! Maybe they went through 200 of them, but that also I would doubt.

The Maharaja show was great fun. Here are a few snaps. Have to remind everyone of my name and so put it prominently.

As Karl mentioned, all of us have to sort out our pictures, some taken on camera, others on mobile, and again several people took several photos. Just waiting for all to come together. Since we were away so long, pending work needed to be attended to.

In the end, the Humber was the only car from India to reach the show. The Humber looked very presentable, and appearance was more striking when the landaulette top was lowered. All the other 13 Maharaja cars now reside abroad. And more than 50% of the cars at the show were smuggled out of the country.

It was great to meet legends, people we had only heard of, people we have corresponded with, and new contacts. Our group from India was small and we all got along fabulously.

Some t-bhpians met us as well. Karlosdeville, Boybentley, harit, Bulldogji

Hope you enjoy these, Wasif.

Cheers harit
