some more info on indian made cars

Chrysler cars of India - Premier Automobiles, Plymouth, Fargo, and DeSoto

Also a correction in post #28. I have wrongly labelled the Montana as a Dolphin in the third last pic

Many of the olden trucks which were sold as Tata, were Mercedes trucks. The history on the Mercedes-Benz website somewhere has pictures of them with Mercedes logo.

Are you reffering to this model?

Were they made here or imported and rebadged? There are hardly any of these around anymore. It would be interesting to see a restored one.

these were assembled in india from 54 onwards, under liscence from MB...practically all tata trucks till very recently were pure mercedes design....

these early models sported a small mercedes "wreath" badge on the radiator alongwith the tata name in the circumference, the only instance in the history of mercedes where it has shared its badge with another...thanks to JRDs persistence...

If I am not wrong, even the wheel center had MB logo's embossed?

So will you guys look back at the 800 the same way as we look back at the beetle now, or the same way we remeber 1100s and the old ambassadors and the defunct standards etc.,?[/quote]
That’s a good point. But I think even after 25 years it may not extinct because of the huge number of cars which maruti produced.
