I used to see this car on the roads on Pune very regularly till a couple of years ago. Im glad it is still on the road. It is a metallic maroon shade. I also used to see one in metallic blue and one in metallic green, also MZA regd. I wonder if the three cars were this same one repainted.

Here is one spotted last week in Pune - probably the same one.

A friend of mine spotted this Baby Hindustan (?) in Juhu and very sweetly took a picture of it for me.

hi my friend correction its an hindustan 14 not an baby hindustan the baby looks like the morris 1000 to be correct

This picture posted by you (Khanak) is the oldest model (introduced in 1949) of the Hindusthan 14 derived from the Morris Oxford MO Series with a 1472 cc side valve engine. The Baby Hindustan is a newer 1955 Morris Minor which was badged as the Hindustan 1000.

sorry to correct you,to the best of my knowledge,there was never a badge ""HIndustan1000"'.although I think I have mentioned it elsewhere ,for clarity I repeat it.The sucession line of HM cars in India is like this.
1946-1948-Morris10 rebadged and sold as HINDUSTAN10(OHV-1141cc)
1949-1953-Morrisoxford ''MO'' sold as HINDUSTAN14(sidevalve-1476cc)
1954-Morris oxford"MO""(1952version) sold as Hindustan Newlook(landmaster grill)
1955-Morris Oxford Series11 sold as Landmaster(sidevalve-1487cc)

whereas the Baby Hindustan was available in India only from 1952 with an OHV engine(Morris Minor1952).whatever changes happened to Morris minor it was carried over in the baby Hindustan till its production ended in 1958/1959(morris minors were available from 1948 imported by a company in Madras called Addisons)

hi ajay the baby hindustan was never called or no monogram say it an hindustan 1000 you are right only the morris 1000 had the monogram morris 1000 there were lots of them in bangalore all GDL regd all of them came from goa and in very original condition

Please go through my post once more.I had mentioned that there was no ""HINDUSTAN 1000"'badge.There was indeed a BABY HINDUSTAN badge on either sides of the bonnet.(also note that all Baby Hindustans did not come with 948cc engines, only the ones which came from 1954/1955.even then There was no "1000'' badge at the back (as per my info).
Regarding Morris Minors, only from 1961 the Badge Morris1000'' came on the sides (1098cc models).The 948cc models also had the Morris Minor badge only,

Allow me to clear up some confusion. The car posted is not a Hindusthan 14, not a Baby Hindusthan, not a Hindusthan 1000 or anything like that. It is a genuine Morris Oxford, I had the same misconception that it was a 14, but I met the owners at a rally who corrected me.




I had also seen a similar Oxford for sale in Pune, here are the Commission plates to authenticate it.

the newlook was produced in very few numbers(maybe few hundred cars) is basically the MORRIS OXFORD ""MO"" 1952 version.the other differences were in the fuel sump capacity, meters(depressed) ,length (1cm more in Newlook)etc.
I have seen the workshop manuals of both the models with a friend. from that only I came to know abt the fuel sump capacity difference

At the recently concluded Sportscraft rally to Khandala from Vashi, Harit brought out his Singer SM1500 (?). This delightfully quirky looking car was assembled in India, I was surprised to find out. It bore a plate on the dash that said assembled and distributed by Dewar's garage, Calcutta.





PS - Harit, it really would be nice if you could wash the car the next time you bring it!
