[quote=Shreeram;2310984]Here are the pics of the Fiat - Starline / Safari / Station Wagon.. We Owned, I think it was an Import.
I would Like to Get this Car Back to our Family if I get a Chance to..
Not Blanking Out the Plates..If anyone Finds this Car Let Me Know./quote]

This is a Fiat 1100 R station wagon, imported. Similar shaped car was built by Starline Motors based on a Premier chassis. In fact that was extended a bit, the rear door was longer.

Hey Shreeram, that's a Fiat 1100R Familiare. Lovely and now rare Fiat.

Here's a picture of the Starline SAB 25. (Courtesy our friend Arun Srinivasan).

Which one did your family own - the 1100R or the SAB 25 ??

Did this share the headlights with the 118NE by any chance?

They do look very similar. But the 118NE came a bit after the SAB. Given that the SAB was more of a 'coachbuilder made' car, it's unlikely that they may have manufactured their own headlights..
My guess is they may have sourced it from some LCV manufacturer.
Maybe Behram can throw some 'light'.

Matador perhaps?
AFAIK, those were the only LCV that came with square-ish headlights back then.

This is the "second generation" of SAB (Starline Auto Builders) station wagons. First they built a station wagon on the original Premier chassis, then they managed to get extended chassis with a longer rear door, and so far the front mask was Premier. In the last phase they changed the look with those square headlights from Tempo Matador. Not many survive as these cars did rust.

Re: Indian built/assembled classics

Wow Shreeram, that's a nice article on this little baby.

I'd seen pictures of this off and on, but didn't know a running example still lived.
As probably the first Indian attempt to make a low-cost car, this certainly deserves a place in the archives.

This Article was first Posted By Karl on Tbhp so credit for this wonderful article goes to him. The Day I first saw this Article I wanted This Baby in my Garage. Over a Period of time I saw the Running Example owned and maintained in Pristine condition by Mr Nagpurkar as mentioned in the Article, many a times. But after seeing it and being used regularly, never had the guts to ask him if it was for sale. As mentioned rightly by Karl there were three of these regularly running on the Road - One Metallic Maroon shade (which is the one in the Article) One in Metallic Blue and One in Metallic Green.

Here are some more Pics of the Metallic Marroon (now repainted) Owned by Mr. Nagpurkar.

But My Continuous Search and Prayers were answered after 3 Looong Years. Now on 27th Sept 2011 - I have become the Proud Owner of the Second One (The Metallic Blue). The Rare Piece of our Indian Motoring History is Standing Tall in my Garage. So shortly there will be Two Running examples on the roads of Pune.

@ Karl - Can you send me a High Resolution Copy of the Article if you have it please?. Not able to find the article in the Pune Mirror Database online.

Re: Indian built/assembled classics

While travelling on the Bombay Pune expressway on Sunday night for a while we were following this neat Dodge Kingsway - with full load she was still moving very quick, a great sight on the highway. Wonder if she was dieselised.
