Hillman Minx Magnificient

Hi Shubz, Nice find Hillman, this seems to be Hillman Minx Magnificient 1938-39 model. Looks like it has original things in place. Request more
pics of engine bay, interiors, side & rear pictures, history if possible.

Interesting find.

Cheers!

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

Saw these two Fiats at CST road Kurla; Both look too tough to restore.

Any more information on the Jetta.

Looks like it can be restored.
Most probably will be a Diesel as most of them were

This car is lying in the lane exactly behind the Porsche showroom, Hyderabad! Don't know if it's up for sale. What I do know is the name on which the car is registered, the engine number and the chassis number, will it help?!

Indeed both look like gone cases, body's had it! BUT they could both make fairly good parts donors. I hope our FIATful friends in B'bay pick up some stuff from them; things like the glass, door handles are as good as extinct already!
Better not take them for granted or else will regret and regret sometime later!

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

As other old Fiats, these two are not gng to be chopped. Those guys are looking for a buyer and the reddish fiat was kept seprate from the other usual fiats. But Yes I agree. both had a lot of rust. The reddish fiat had a floor gear too! but had orignal gauges.

Thanks Vintagepoint! I did pick the hood up a bit and there was an engine in place (although rusting). This beauty is NOT for sale for as far as I know. As the mechanic was saying its not for sale as the owner wants to restore it (familiar story eh? :P ) Just in case if it is - what would be a good price to pick it up for?

interior/side/rear pictures to follow after I visit my mechanic again in a few days time.

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

Hi Shubz, please post pics of Hillman Minx whenever possible for you, interior, engine and body, etc, then we can be able to say approx. price,
depending on the car condition and restoration needed. Fully agree with you with owners, general assumption of keeping like this and not selling until it is damaged beyond repairs.

General speaking Hillman cars were rugged and very durable.

Cheers!

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

The first car seems more likely to be a Ford prefect, which was found ample in India.

Raab Rakha.
The first car is indeed a Ford Prefect. The rear suspension (transverse leaf spring) was quite unique for this car. Its front grille is also quite distinct.
But the condition both the cars are in are pitiable.Perhaps both can be used as limited donor cars with the little parts they have still on them.
There were many such old cars bought by PSU officials (Dhanbad, Ranchi, Rourkela,Bokaro, Bhilai, Durgapur, Talcher and other coal belt and Steel Authority areas included) at dirt cheap prices of around Rs 3000 to Rs 5000 in the late 1970's and 1980's.The ownership would entitle them to draw car allowance that would be somewhere like Rs 400- Rs 600 p.m. in the 1980's.The requirement was ownership, which would be fulfilled with such a car.
So we cannot believe that genuine old car lovers bought and maintained such cars for posterity. It has rather led to decay and rotting of many such cars in these areas.Or the other way round, maybe such ownership may have saved many cars from getting scrapped in the 1970's and 1980's owing to the demand.
