Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

'had posted a pic. or two of this mk1 Standard Herald I've been seeing sitting in the compound of an old bungalow at Secunderabad since Jan 2010.
Got to check out the car up close with a friend last weekend. 'turns out its an early ('61-62) Herald- note the original front parking lamps still intact! However, the dash unfortunately has been changed to a wooden decolam one with later guages! And of course the rear suspension/axle's been changed too (Standard 10 diff. with parallel leaf springs)

The car otherwise has everything intact and its a shame it's rotting away here!
'was told by a few sources that the owner does not want to sell as it belonged to his late wife and he wanted to keep it in her memory. Familiar story?

Fans of the standard should at least give him a cover for the below and top so that the floor board is not in mud and starts rotting

Cheers

Haha! In any case we so far never saw "him" around the place! And what's the guarantee that whoever "he" is would actually accept the cover gratefully? What if he says "I can afford one myself!" (might get offended as it'd hurt his ego?!) or even more commonly "I already have bought one and will be putting it on soon....!"
Or simply ask what concern it is of ours? In fact just as we were walking out we were confronted by a guy who was living in the outhouse of the place and seemed to be a caretaker, when my friend who was with me first replied to him that we were just seeing the car he retorted "koun bole aake dekhne ku?" (note: this is Hyderabadi dialect, nothing to do with my Hindi!) but fortunately my friend introduced himself, his father having known the owner's family of old and the guy turned more courteous towards us. We might still meet him again and convince him about putting a tarp on the car now that he is acquainted with us (my friend!)

Very interesting indeed! Dodge or Fargo. If this picture is in India, then the topography resembles the Deccan region closest, to me. Either way, the environmentalist will surely be up for a treesome!!

Hi, I am interested in the E30, can you please find if the owner is interested in selling it. I can restore it and use it.

It's missing from that place for over a year now. And AFAIK, the owner wasn't interested in selling it.

This is a Dodge Half Ton Panel of the late 1930's-early 1940's. The badging was on the bonnet which is missing in the picture posted. Hence, its badging as a Fargo cannot also be ruled out.
