Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

Found these pics. of a Super 10 supposedly at Ahmednagar, (MH) uploaded in a group on Facebook. The car appears to be in some scrapyard, the last pic. of the rear was taken a few months later!

That's a crying shame. I think I had seen this car in Pune many years back (I had seen a BYH 5xxx registered black Super 10 in similar condition). Even in this day and age a car like this gets crushed - can't believe it!

Indeed it is sad but then the car appeares to have been far too gone to restore for that matter! Some of the remaining cosmetic parts could've been salvaged though. Like the bumpers and grille. Do you have any pics. of the BYH car you refer to btw (this car also seems to have had a BYH regn. faintly made out)

The cars surroundings have an uncanny resemblance to the open plot near kk bazar where many such cars were standing including some fiats and a VW van isnt it Karl ?

I had seen the Super 10 in kk bazaar itself. But this was years ago. I hadn't seen the others you mention.

Had been to the same place yesterday, found a Jeep Wagoneer from 70's too among the other cars. Sad to see a good jeep going down the ground .

The Standard is completely gone, so are the Amby's. The Mark II dash of Amby seems to be salvageable.

Manish, what kind of place is this? Looks like an impound yard of a Police Station?! If so, do be careful! Or some govt. office premises?

This is not a police impound for sure. It is a govt. office premises, where they had these vehicles as part of their fleet. Now dumped. Also since being a govt. there will probably be no construction and thus there remain in the state they are.

Manish I would guess this is the Excise Department and these would be seized vehicles, most probably used for smuggling booze in the old days.

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

It is very painful to see the vehicles which are to be restored, safeguarded are going for waste. Jeep Wagoneer is a one of them, I wish someone could save it. I wonder how these vehicles were not sold in auction, excise department does it periodically, sometimes govt policies let valuable things go waste.

Smuggling booze? Would love to know more on that. By the way this is the Forest Department in Hoskote. Actually the land were these are dumped does not have any board, but then the space next to it is Forest department.

That is a Chevy Deluxe. Seems to have been a complete car until it was dropped there.

Yes ,unauthorised spirit smuggling in ordinary passenger vehicles was a common pratice.Formerly landmasters and Ambassadors were their favourites. Two existing landmasters in Kerala were auctioned after seizure for the abovesaid activity!

Maybe they also carried Red Sanders or Sandalwood, if the forest department had seized these vehicles.
