"Maharaja’s four-wheeled gift turns to scrap as BBMP ‘forgets’ its existence"

1959 model Dodge van bearing registration number MYB 9544 is seen “as is where is” as it goes up for auction shortly. At present it lies amidst the rubble at BBMP premises in Ejipura.

'Just before it was dissolved by the state government last week, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) put up a public auction notice for several used cars. One of the cars is a vintage 1959 Dodge van. On further probe, we found that the 'car' put up on an 'as-is-where-is' basis now only consists of mangled remains of what was once a car. This van was a gift to the civic agency from the former Maharaja of Mysore. But no one in the BBMP even remembers how this gift turned into wreckage.

The vehicles are rusting away at the Palike city shed on Usman Khan Road, Palike head office or at the Koramangala Palike hotmix plant premises, where the Dodge is.

Sources say that Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, the royal from Mysuru, who was also the governor of the state between 1956 and 1964, gifted the car to the city corporation during this time. However, all records pertaining to this are lost. Today, no one even remembers how many years this van has been kept idle.

An abandoned Audi.
The plates seem to be fake though, even the engine number seems to be of a M800.

This seems to be a mid 80's Audi 80 CC sedan in a rather pathetic state .

Hey, did you spot this in the bylanes of Padmanabhanagar? I remember seeing an abandoned white Audi 80 sedan there, but never had a chance to stop and click a photo.

I spotted this car a couple of weeks ago, but I couldn't stop and snap pics as I was busy following my friend in the confusing bylanes, plus I had my riding gloves on.
After returning to Mysore, I asked my friend if he could click the pics and send them..and, here they are

Still looks remarkably complete - retains all the rare trim bits after all these years in the open. But look closer and we see a floor shifter (and the base of the column shifter). So probably dieselised - as most of them were. Hope it doesn't go into the ground, but even at this stage looks like a daunting restoration even on the rare chance that the car will be sold.

Completely agree on that Karlosdeville. I had a similar car available in my town for a paltry sum of 8000/- in 2006. Was a shame that I let it go back then.

This is a Toyota Corona from 1973 or so. Sad plight !

Spotted this Merc W115 with sunroof, put out to pasture. Car was pretty solid, and could have been restored with a little effort. Wonder what has happened to it now.

I suspect such cars have had issues with papers etc. Otherwise seldom would a Merc. die such a death! Is this in Madras btw?
