Within the covers of The 101 Automotive Jewels of India unfolds a journey of discovery, of the most unusual, exciting and best preserved automobiles in India. The 101 vehicles documented encapsulate the essence of the automobile in India and the impact on contemporary culture. This book brings out the most authentic examples of India’s automotive past, as well as a carefully considered selection of historic vehicles that stood out either as interesting, fascinating, or simply beguiling. The 101 Automotive Jewels of India by Gautam Sen & Makarand Baokar. Published by Heritage Publishers, New Delhi, India. ISBN: 978-81-7026-392-0. Priced: INR Rs2950/US $60/GB £45.
If you would like to order a copy (or several) may I request you to please write to the publisher Himanshu Chawla at info@heritagepublishers.com

Gautam and Makarand have been working on this for a long time, and the idea was to put together a list of 101 significant cars in India, and practically all of them are still retained here. The selection spans cars from over a century, from 1905 to 2008, though a majority of cars featured are historic in nature.

In my personal opinion Gautam has a rare talent to appreciate the significance of some cars that most of us enthusiasts would dismiss in the blink of an eye (like the Nissan President featured for example). Having worked closely with many of the design greats of the world, Gautam is highly respected by his peers for his command on the subject and cultivated eye. And from my experience, his humility!

After having contributed to multiple motoring publications, Makarand has quickly carved himself a niche positioning as a specialist photographer for vintage and classic cars - collaborating with Gautam in the past on other book projects like the Maharajas and their magnificent motorcars, as well as projects on design legends Bertone, Gandini and more. Some of his best work is featured in this book, including some terrific new age techniques. Visit www.makarandbaokar.com for more.

The selection of cars is across a wide spectrum - from veteran models, to opulent Maharaja cars, to sporty racers, cute local projects and even outrageous low volume specialist oddities. Some of the cars we forgot about in recent times are featured, and some cars are accompanied by lovely archival material too. The photography is world class (barring a couple here and there that were amateur submissions). It is important to understand that this was not intended to be the definitive list of collectable cars in the country, so there is always room for a future edition, there's still plenty of them out there.

Here is a teaser of some of the work.

:Shockked: Please ask them to make it available on Amazon.in. It's just infinitely more convenient.

I have ordered my copy on 15th Dec and looking forward to receive the book.

This book is a must read for enthusiasts, I have loved the Authors previous books and would say some of his work is well researched and a good read (like Million cars for Billion people). Baokar is now in a different league all together. Form simple beginnings in Auto India he has evolved a lot and his work is good but then in this book he has done wonders. I am awaiting my copy as well.

The correct email id to order your copy is: info@heritagepublishers.in
