Hats off to the owner and the team that worked on the restoration. Would love to see this car in person someday
Back in 2012 they had similar category in which few cars fro India participated. Seeing the response (and the grandeur of cars), it was decided to have this category again.

If I get it correct then Manvendra Singh (well known among the circle) was tasked to choose worthy contenders. The criteria is best in every thing. And looking a the cars, you can agree more.

I am happy that most of the cars entered won prizes, this is great achievement for cars, their owners, the promoters for car culture and most importantly the restorers.

A big for the restorers who can better the advanced restoration offered abroad.

And there are number of cars still to be featured, both in India and abroad, I definitely feel that we could have one more category in the coming year. Which would be a very good thing to celebrate our glorious past.

Marque, uniqueness, legacy of the car and willingness to spend the money would be the primary criteria for the cars to be picked, in the first place.

Re: The 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance - Motor Cars of the Raj

Thanks, lovely pictures and coverage.

All the nine cars from India, placed in a special category were judged against each other.

Six out of nine will be returning home with prizes.

The remaining three perhaps should also be given something for their effort.

It is a good beginning to encourage owners from India to participate in international events.

Once sufficient interest is developed, maybe we will see our entries really compete (with international entrants) and not only with each other.

One must appreciate the time effort and expense that went into preparing these entrants. This is bound to raise our restoration efforts to higher levels.

Congratulations to all, and safe passage home.

Re: The 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance - Motor Cars of the Raj

That's a really good turnover - 6 out of 9. Were the Maharajah cars only from India? Or was there any participation of ex-Maharajah cars that were exported out of India?

I believe that this special class was created only for cars from India, so that they did not have to compete with international entries.

To me that is a bit of a damper, I would like to see our cars hold their own against others, our restorations have really begun to match those in the west.

I had a chance to see the garage in Delhi where BRG1 is housed , many years ago.

That garage had cars restored in The UK, and some in Delhi.

Honestly, it was very very hard to tell the Difference

True Sir (feels very weird to call you Bulldogji)

The quality of craftsmanship here in Mumbai and other places like Indore, Kolkata etc are truly comparable with international standards.

More than our cars being compared to the exported ones, it would have been a proud moment for us to showcase our heritage to the world.

There were at least a couple - I saw them parked at Carmel by the Beach whilst I was there last week.

You can call him Hormusji Cama. And on another note, he has some pristine cars that are driven hard and almost every day, they way they should be.
