We had another wonderful drive to Kunigal Stud Farm last Sunday.

The Events Team at KVCCC organized a beautiful drive to Kunigal Stud Farm. There was excellent response from the members, who made it with their family members.

Artwork announcing the event was done by a member child. Was appreciated by the members


The beautiful Bangalore weather meant that the sports cars were going to have a blast.


We grouped at the Nellamangala Toll










The South Bangalore members met at the NICE Toll before meeting the rest of us at Nelamangala Toll for the final grouping




We hit the road

Breakfast was sponsored by one of our senior members, Mr. Arjun. Super food.


The Cars all lined up at the Breakfast place. Attracted a lot of attention.

After a sumptuous breakfast we hit the road to Kunigal












We were able to maintain around 40-45 mph, as the roads are good. However this is a good two lane, so we had ensure that our convoy did not cause any jam. We gave priority to the other users of the road for overtaking, especially around slow moving trucks


We all reach the Stud Farm safely without any breakdown or mishap




The 45 miles one way drive was relaxing and members were looking forward to see the horses and learn about the stud farm

Here is the final piece of this fantastic trip. We need to appreciate the history of the place and its importance as the oldest Stud Farm in the country.

History of Kunigal Stud Farm
The farm was created by Tipu Sultan for breeding horses for his wars in the 1790s.[2] After his death, the farm was used by the British Army to breed horses, mainly Arabian horses for their cavalry regiments.[3] In 1886, the farm also housed Pero Gomez, the first-ever thoroughbred stallion to be imported into India. Subsequently, the horses were also bred for racing and these horses started to challenge the supremacy of horses imported from United Kingdom and Australia as well. The imperial government held control of the farm during the period under the superintendence of Colonel Hay, General Stewart, Colonel McIntire, Colonel A. A. Jones and Colonel R. J. Jones among others. It was then transferred to the Military Department of the Kingdom of Mysore before transferring to the government of Mysore state in 1948

Stud Farm
The farm is spread across 400 acres (1.6 km2) and is divided into 25 paddocks of different sizes. Good pasture is maintained and plants needed for fodder like Alfalfa, Green oats and Rhodes grass are grown here.[4] Training facilities for horses including a riding school is present in the farm. The farm also contains a water purification plant and medical care for horses are provided by veterinarians

Dr. Dinesh who is the Chief Veterinarian explained to us. The horse's age is defined by the year of the birth. The births are always timed from Jan-March of each year. The Foals are weaned from their mothers at 5 months and are auctioned when they are 2 years old

The VIP Stallions get a special stable. High roof, more room and double tiled roof to keep them cool


The stallions get special treatment. These are normally imported and cost a lot of money


Eight generations have to be documented. Racing pedigree of both parents will determine the prices at auction. For racing whether the horse is male or female, does not matter.

The lunch was sponsored by one of our members. We had a great lunch, discussed old stories and shared our thoughts. After a very satisfying day we line up for the group photo with the two MG's flanking us.

To end this series on the Kunigal Stud Farm Run, I would like to sum it up as a fantastic trip and something all of us will really cherish.

Some lovely memories evoked by the postings so far! I joined the club when I moved to Bangalore on a reasonably permanent basis in 1987. My first car was a 1950 Vauxhall Wyvern, a single owner car from Madras, owned by a Professor in Madras University and never driven in anger. It was in its original paint and in 37 years, had done just 37000 miles. On a Sunday, I heard of a rally from the papers and rushed to the Westend Hotel, where the rally was to commence. I was stopped by a stern Prithvi, who said I could not participate because I wasn't a member. But that was remedied very quickly, as I became a member on the spot! From then on, a whole new world opened up for me, as I discovered fellow enthusiasts, several of whom became and remain fast friends. Many thrills and spills have since ensued in the past thirty plus years, which shall be recounted in the due course of time.

KVCCC members we invited to the 5th Edition of VROOM, drag races. We were invited to come witness drag racing at its best. The vintage cars were supposed to add pictures and colour to the event.

The event was advertised in social media and our participation was prominent

KVCCC organised a rally on 8th December 2019 in memory of Senior member Mr. Edward Rodrigues who was very active in all the Club activities and unfortunately passed away recently.
It started at Marriott Hotel ,Whitefield and passed through Palm Meadows for a brief halt and culminated at the Whitefield Club.
It was a nice drive again after the last event at Taneja Aerospace recently.
Quite a good number of participants participated though at short notice.
Something worth mentioning here is that Mr.Pruthvi , father of KPS who is around 85 years of age drove the beetle for the event.
