The car is not so commonly seen in the Mumbai rally circuits I believe! But this is a rally picture.

Thanks for sharing, I probably attended this event (been to all since 2006), but simply cannot remember seeing this car before! It does look smart.

Car was in Shivaji Park, quite well restored, sold to Delhi to a dealer, and now with Doc. Yes, the car turned out very smart.

Spotted this car on the ring road half an hour back. Couldn't click better pics since the traffic was moving pretty fast. Any idea which car is this?

Looks like that from the pics on the net. The surprising thing was that it was easily keeping up with the traffic and was in mint condition. Kudos to the owner. Was a Left hand drive.

Well, this is a Plymouth Valiant 2nd generation made between 1963 to 1966, also available with a V-8 engine. But most likely a 6 cylinder going by the trend of the vehicles imported into India. There is a car like this in Bangalore, also seen in a B+W picture posted by Karl long ago. This car shares the tail light and the front end including the grill with the Plymouth Barracuda of the same period.
What kind of pics were seen on the net? Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Valiant

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

Well as i said the Australian law regarding import and use of LHD vehicles, which has been just modified some years ago, forbid any LHD cars on road to be driven legally so all imports, whether Mustang or not, had to be converted. Whether Ford Australia did this or some aftermarket fellows, im not sure. This i learnt from my visit to Australia way back in 1999 when i saw Mustangs on rent at Surfer's Paradise. When i asked the dealer as to how these were converted to RHD, he mentioned this to me. Later on, the law got modified for classic and vintage and collectible cars which are now allowed to retain their LHD drive train.

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

The only LHD cars allowed are US military vehicles (they man some radar stations around there). I remember spotting some folks peering at an ordinary US Jeep in Alice springs - why ? It was a left hooker

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

There was an expedition of Citroen Kergesse's to India. These were the famous half-track made by Citroen in the 1920's and were used extensively in deserts and rough terrain.
Classic and Sports Car October 2012 issue carries a 5 page article on this, below the 5th page clearly mentions that they were also in India.
I thought that this snippet could be of interest, dear mod please repost if this thread is not the appropriate thread.

Lovely! The blue dodge had once appeared for a Deccan Heritage rally in the past, and the Green and white Buick was seen just once for the HAIG rally at Secunderabad club a few years ago.

The cover of the "La Croisiere Jaune" may have been inspired by one of the photos posted by Team-BHPian Basharatu here. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/vintag...ml#post2200915

From what little I have read and seen of these cars, found the '36 Dodge with its squarish lights a bit incongruous with the designs of the times. Anyone else share this feeling?

My first reaction on seeing this was, Holy cow, has someone modified it? But I guess the designer decided to do something different. Instead of designed, it looks stuck in, almost like afterthoughts.

In comparison, the yellow Chrysler's horizontal floating lights are beautiful and to me a nice take.

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

All these cars are single owner cars, with the same family from day one and in immaculate condition.

I remember once tailing the Dodge back from school on my Kawasaki and it was being driven so fast it was tough to keep up. I kept seeing those teardrop shaped brake cum rear lights light up every once in a while when the brakes were hit.

Dodge has its original lights, very hard to find replacments for them in today s times !

The Grey Buick is a 39 model
