On the 29th of July I went down to Bombay for a Beetle Club meet, strangely, in the midst of the monsoon. But the never say die attitude of the beetle meant 8 cars did turn up for the drive, starting from Bandra reclamation, and ending at the Race course for breakfast. However as the place was shut in the morning we proceeded to Cafe Mondegar's at Colaba. I was accompanying Keith in his 74 superbeetle, which, like all his VWs, performed remarkably.

Lineup at 8am

Another superbeetle, this time in trademark Powder Blue.

I jumped into this 74 Super Beetle for the drive. Note by now how bulbous the car has become, having to incorporate many safety requirements like the Elephants foot taillights.

Number 53, Herbie himself. A very faithfully executed job, this.

Parked at the race course.

Forum memer blueoyster's Sirrocco alongside a mint 63 bug. We missed V-16's GTI giving it company.

Sigh...when will my bug be a part of such an event?

This very same car was destroyed in the recent movie "Dhamaal". It had an MDC regn, (Mardas?), and was first made to unsuccesfully jump a broken bridge, then catch fire, explode, and ultimately just fall apart. how could they! Infact I later recall having seen one hubcap from this car at chor bazaar. Wish I had picked it up for novelty purposes...it got sold in front of me.

if you could that would be great. you could check if it is a 6 or 8 cylinder engine. what year is the car and if there is everything in the car nothing missing. the rest can be taken care off.looking forward to pictures. you could also just check what the price the guy is looking at to sell the car. thank you.

OMG! What a shame!! Although I'm not that crazy about pre-50s cars, I feel awful bout it.....such a beautiful car!!
Why didnt they just use an Ambassador (as they normally do) or Contessa or such car for such scenes?? Why on earth did they pick up a vintage/classic, which would look anachronistic for a current film anyways!
MDC is Madras presidency although couldnt have been a Madras city/chennai (which I guess always had 'MS' series nos.) regn.......it must've been originally registred in some district hence MD (Madras dist.) series.....?
Anyways, just searched for the film clips on youtube & found this trailer where the car appears in a coupla scenes:
