Is the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow the one that was once owned by Captain Leela Nair?

Check again carefully, not all cars have bidders you have to go to the car page and look at the bidding activity. Your screen shot only shows the base bid for cars that do not have a bid on them.

Thank you so much, I stand corrected.

Now lets wait and watch what happens in the next two hours.

The 1966 Mercedes 230S was estimated at a top end of Rs. 25 Lakhs and the final price of Rs. 68.31 lakhs including 15% buyers margin is mind blowing. This is now a crazy benchmark.

Cheers

Re: Vintage car auction on November 18-19, 2019

Six cars were indeed sold, one more was nearly sold but the owner decided to sell off site, so actually seven cars invited expressions of interest.

Both astaguru car auctions held so far have thrown up unpredictable results.

Interestingly, European cars seem to attract greater interest as compared to American metal.

One hopes , in due course of time, prices find some stability .

Lots of interest is already being shown by prospective sellors for the next auction.

American metal has very poor brand recognition in India. There are Fiat clubs, mercedes clubs, JDM car clubs and now even Maruti clubs if you get the drift.

Re: Vintage car auction on November 18-19, 2019

The trend encourages more international auction houses to enter now and sell old automobiles after creating a hype with lots of pomp and glitter. The prices that bidders have sealed the deals for are much, much more than the market prices.

More international auction houses entering and with the higher bids, it will also be ironical to see automobiles being sold in India for three or more times the prices these are valued at internationally or in the country of origin of such auction houses.

Re: Vintage car auction on November 18-19, 2019

Anjan, if international auction houses do get into this, which personally I doubt at this stage, prices might just stabilise.

But keeping in mind cost of restoration and associated headaches here, perhaps buyers prefer to pay a bit more to get a decent running car.

You know the costs these days for even a fair restoration, not getting into the millions some people spend just to get prizes in , to borrow from your post, pomp and glitter events known to all , which shall remain unnamed here.

Having said that, even I was taken aback at the hammer price of the fin tail.

But then, if the buyer thinks the price makes sense to him, who are we to say anything !

Sellors will surely be excited at the prices attained, but they should remember , one swallow does not a summer make
