What is the year of manufacture of the Danta 14 Buick Eight Roadmaster? Reminds me of the Frog Eye AH Sprite! I wonder how many such similar cars exist? Any idea to which collection this car belongs?

I am no expert , but looks like a 1939 or 1940 to me

By the way , to the best of my knowledge, and that is limited, there is nothing like a Buick eight road master.

They were either Buick eights or the road masters which were the higher versions.

FEbruary has rallies in Delhi and Bombay, in addition to a long distance one, Bombay to Rajkot. When is the Poona rally scheduled?

I should hope Poona too will have its rally shortly after the Bombay event, but no confirmation so far. Our last VCCCI event was in Dec 2012, the MASA event in September 2012, and Jadhavgadh in May 2011. I'm looking forward to it naturally.

The Buick is a 39 - a very quirky yet good looking desgin to me. There are a few 39s around, I know a convertible in Pune and Ahmedabad, plus a sedan in Bombay and Jaipur. I'm sure there should be more around.

Though I had identified the car as a Buick, I had actually zoomed the picture and saw the Buick Eight Roadmaster wordings

And some of the pics. I took at the same event- which was actually to celebrate 90 years of HPS (Hyderabad Public School), Begumpet on Sunday, 22nd December 2013.

This was actually, I was told, organised by the HPS alumni so most of the participants were alma mater of the school.

'meant to upload these earlier but I've been having some trouble downloading the images from my inbox after emailing them from my mobile, then there was a lot of resizing to do (most of the pics. were above 1 MB each! which the upload server on tbhp doesnt accept IIRC!)

Among the cars, there were a few prominent ones like the ex-Nizam owned '51 Dodge Kingsway (shouldnt it have been Coronet then though?) still in original paint and interior, now part of the Pestonjee collection. The clock fitted on the dash is said to have been done so by the Nizam who took the clock from one of his RRs!

Any idea where DANTA is btw? Gujarat? Any further info. on the Buick's pedigree?

The owner should also be told that the wiper arm/blade position on the driver side is wrong. Looks very odd on otherwise a pleasing buick

Nice to see some of Captain Pestonjee"s cars.Were his bikes entered as well? The Nizam"s Dodge has the original leather pattern on the seats. Good reference for anyone who needs it.

The Caddilac , I recall a dark maroonish one in Hyderebad, is it the same car?

There were a couple of bikes, though not the captain's AFAIK.

Yes, the Caddy was dark brown/maroon earlier, now repainted navy blue (looks better IMHO) and is owned by a fellow tbhpian incidentally.

This coverage on a recent rally in Faridabad appeared in Dainik Jagran

As there are so many events happening in the first quarter of this year, I was checking VCCCI website whether I have missed any.
They announced a Republic Day Rally but give no details like entry form etc. After asking around, tweety told me that initially there was no permission as the parade was to be held along Marine Drive which will therefore be closed. So maybe the vintage drive will happen after the parade, but no info.
Then I was told that the entries for the drive will be by invitation only, as usual the owner of VCCCI will decide on this. Hopefully more cars will be seen than only those belonging to the office bearers of this very exclusive club.
Also, in the "Upcoming Events" section they do not mention the ongoing bike show in Goa where there is a vintage bike section, Nagpur Republic day parade, FICCI rally to Pakistan, I think Ahmedabad was to have some event too. And Retromobile show has still not been mentioned, though the owner of VCCCI was an entrant and backed out in the last minute.
Besides a website, selected friends have been invited to a VCCCI private Facebook page. As expected, I was not sent that mail which anyway is irrelevant as it can hardly be understood.
So all can stay glued to the TV on 26th and hope so see some old old cars.

Last week Sunday (12th January) I went for my first ride for the year on my Bullet. Enroute on the Gurgaon Faridabad Road I noticed several magnificent classic cars. I suspected they were on their way to an event or so.

So I followed and ended up at the Taj Vivanta Surajkund hotel on the outskirts of Delhi. Turns out the Heritage Motoring Club of India was out in force. They allowed me to park my Bullet with their cars and bikes and wander around. After all my Bullet is a proper 1975 classic! In essence I was just gate crashing, but everybody was very amicable and I had a good chat with several of the members. And everybody liked my bullet

Some very nice cars. I was surprised to see a Ford Capri! Never knew they had been around in India!

Very enjoyable event, many thanks to the HMCI for their hospitality! I would have liked to stay longer, but I had some other commitments to attend too. Might see if I can join?

Here is the schedule of events I received from the VCCCI.

Dear Friends,

VCCCI Calendar for 2014 is full of events.

1) The first event is on Sunday 26th January 2014 on Republic Day in the morning and our Vintage & Classic Cars would be joining the Parade which is being held at Marine Drive for the first time.

Limited number of 20 convertibles and 5 sedans are participating.

2) A Delhi to Gurgaon Rally has been planned for 1st & 2nd February 2014 and 10 cars from Mumbai are invited. To and fro freight and hotel accommodation is being provided.

3) HMSCI in association with FICCI has organized a Rally to Lahore-Pakistan from 13th February to 16th February 2014.

Cars will leave from Wagah Border to Lahore, a drive of 40 Kms and a display for 2 days at the Indian exhibition. 5 star hotel accommodation is provided free.

4) Our Annual Fiesta will be held on Sunday 16th February 2014 in Mumbai.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the website vccci.com or be collected from WIAA or VCCCI office.

5) Pune event dates will be sent soon.

Please rush your entries immediately.

Its a great sign of things to come that more events are providing freight and accommodation gratis. Will hopefully encourage more participation.
