Yes, MDN was Nilgiris (N) to be precise, when the state was called Madras State. MD stood for Madras District I understand. Later succeeded by TMN, TNN etc. after the state was renamed TN.

Is yours a round one or of a different shape? I have a round one to spare though it's rather small, being of a Herald gearshift.
BTW, how aobut some pics. of your restoration?

Re: Standard cars in India

Hi Stanher,
The gear knob is an elongated cylindrical one,I too have a small one that probably came on the herald, but I was just trying to locate one of the originals.I do not have any pictures taken during the restoration, but I shall post pictures of the restored car quite soon
Thanks once again

Re: Standard cars in India

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could let me know as to whether there are Triumph Herald cars in India, especially the 1200's and 12/50's as I just managed to lay my hands on one and would like to be in touch with other owners.
I would be grateful if any pictures were posted
Regards
Venkat KUMAR

Re: Standard cars in India

From a lot of negatives recently obtained, Heralds racing at the Juhu Airport.
I have yet to see all the pics. There will be more.

4-door Heralds make ideal racers. LOL

Cheers harit

Re: Standard cars in India

Was shuffling through some old pictures when I found these - Our 1963 Standard Herald Saloon. My father learned driving on this.

Do you know what colour it actually was?
