I tried to meet the owner, but unable to find him in the rally it is around
June 2006, but I have taken picture of Standard 8 Flying, will send you asap.

Another one I saw somebody posted in Rust in piece forum, it was in
bad shape rusting in open, see if we recover it that car. I saw this
cars on road during childhood, they are very silent in running. If any
expert can enlighten us, if Standard 8 flying comes in 4 door also?
One black I have seen Hyd is 2 doors only. But now the new serial
going to start on Zee TV (Rock N Roll) is showing Standard 8 flying
open top and looks like it is funny serial they are riding in this car
like Love Bug Beetle VW.

I used to watch every movie where I find any vintage car in it, I think
most of our friends also know about, these movies have nice vintage
cars in it:

The Road to Perdition (English)
Those Magnificient Men and their machines (English)
The Yellow Rolls Roycle (English)
Netaji Bose (The Unsung Heroes) recently I came across an article
and pics, showing Wholesy car 1947 car used in it, belongs to gentlemen
in Varnasi, who inherited this car from his family, there is an interesting
article about this car.

Stanher: Few days back I have seen ads that Standard 8 Flying for sale in UK. There are lot of cars in UK, we like is available for sale, but the problem to bring to India.

Cheers!

Car looks nice., but far from any original shade of color.Flying 8, also known as Bell Standard were 2 doors. 4 door standards were either 12 or 14

Flying 8s were only 2 door. I think the 9, 10, 12 and 14 were offered in 4 door combination.

There was a plan to launch the Flying 8 in a four door version, but it never materialised. The only proof in existence is this brochure printed, but never circulated.

Here's a Super 10 (quite complete barring the missing rear badges), formerly a madras reg'd car, to be restored soon.....and a mk1 Herald fitted with a mk2 bonnet, acquired by a local enthusiast, who also owns the black LHD super-select that is a regular participant at the local rallies here.

'happened to meet him as I was passing by his locality today on my way to someplace else & he invited me to drop by at his place later. Although he was too busy to meet when I later went back there he permitted me to check out his cars (hence not blanking out the plates.)

The herald (actually said to've been bought by his father), incidentally, was the same one I'd heard about that was on sale a few months ago (had even mentioned it in this forum then.), painted maroon/chocolate brown then.

wow, jayD chetta!! Your right, it indeed is one of the best (nothing to make you jealous, Karl !! )

I hope he is also able to find those vertical slats for the front grille soon- hence I guess now I'm not the only person who needs that pennant donor car!

I just hope my pennant also comes upto the same 'standard'!

Thats a neat car indeed. This colour combo along with that of my car was the most popular back in the day.

Dear Shyam - thanks for some good standard 10 pictures here. I am still waiting. Guess I'll stick to Fiats for a while.

Best regards,

To the right of the Mercedes 320 is an approximately 1913 Standard.(It has the pre 1914 style radiator but I'm not sure about the mudguards and I think the wheels have been changed. It used to appear in the Kolkata rally and came to Delhi about 1987 or so and was in the Delhi rally a few times.

Am glad someone reads those pages

Another Standard, that too this early, is indeed exciting news. Do provide us with some more details. Have you worked on the car?

No, it had some problems but I had too much other work on bigger cars at the time. It is safely kept in Delhi. I believe it used to belong to someone who drove a HM Contessa round the world in the 80s.
