True. There were never any OE convertibles offered in India by Standard Motor Products of India, confirmed by an ex dealer I interacted with in madurai back in 2009.
This particular car too, like many other such Indian herald 'convertibles' was modified by the owner to a soft top. Sadly an increasing trend in India these days, sacrificing many original cars in the process including this one!
I even have older pics of it before the conversion though not in my phone, maybe in my PC (which is lazier than me!) So will take time before I can dig them out! If not, Karlosdeville definitely can!

Re: Standard cars in India

No idea where else to post these photos.
Visiting Sri Lanka and staying at the lovely heritage Galle Face Hotel in Colombo I went to their museum upstairs where this gorgeous car, a Standard 9 from 1935, now owned by the Gardiner family, who also own the Hotel, is preserved in all its glory. Once owned by HRH Prince Philip in 1940, when he was stationed in Sri Lanka, this car since moved to the ownership of the Gardiners and has remained perfectly preserved and looked after.
Truly a thing of beauty.

She had received it from the government as award for her sports achievements. She did not know driving at the time and had to hire a driver! I remember a Doordarshan TV interview of hers in which she had disclosed these things.

Here's the link to the interview:

The car is discussed at 6:48 minutes.

Re: Standard cars in India

Standard 20 Micro is very close to my heart. I have so many fond memories growing up with it. We had one in the family brought new in 1984 to use as a delivery van and scrapped in 1996. Other 2 delivery vans were the gen 1 Standard 20 and the Matador.

Note that this van originally seems to be a delivery van due to the rear door and single window. The minibus did not have rear door and had split windows. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Interesting Karl. Were the rear axles different to the sedan?

Cheers

From this factory literature it looks to be the same swing axle design
