i did not know that the standard penent are still used in madurai. like stanher pointed out i thought only in major cities. the car does look great in a single colour and well kept too, karl will enjoy this immensely.
Thank you Speedy.

Madurai has 5 to 6 Standards i trust.

But wherever you go in a Standard be prepared to answer barrage of questions on the car,
like 'what mileage ?"
"good suspension eh?
"Climbs hill with ease?".

Speedy, I was just looking at your pics. of this car again....looked more closely this time....I realised that this happens to be a rare, early ('62) Herald!! 'could make out from the holes at the front where the original dual bulb indicators where, the shape of the front bumper under the numberplate, the 2 holes on the dicky where the 'standard' badge was (above the numberplate light) & although I cant make out it has a 'mesh' type of design on the bonnet vent (right above the centre strip)....later cars had vertical slats type of design...
You can see the pic.s of my '62 Herald to compare:

The dash of course is not original & is supposed to look like this:

Pity that such a rare car ended up in this state! So any news on following up with this car?
Good luck again! 'just hope your able to salvage it!

stanher the car looks alot like yours. the emblems in the front and rear are at the same place. the only thing different is the dash board.
like you say the car is a rare early 62 model and i guess the owner of the car would be knowing that. he has two beetles and a baby austin too if you remember me mentioning. i have not been able to get in touch with him as his timeings are odd and i missed him twice. i just hope he is ready to part with the car, as i see chancees of that happening very bleak and the most likely response that i would get is no it is not for sale or i am restoreing the car and have sentimental values attached with the car.

Yup as I said, the dash on this car isnt original, its a fabricated wooden one...very difficult to find early Heralds with the original dashes (made of cardboard!) intact! Mine too is barely hanging on as you can see!

True, these answers are so common we might as well make a refernce book out of them so we could cross refernce for the answer when we expect a negative response from any of them! :P
Still, do keep your hopes up!

i think we should write a book on rejections and note the different kinds of no's we would get. you know the tones, facial features and everything.
i thrive on rejection and like to study it in detail so the guy has to really tell me more than once to get rid of me . finally either the guy gives me what i want or i had enough of wasteing my time and move on to the next to return to the first one on a little later date.
