This article appeared in India Today magazine back in 1997 - it talks about a taxi driver and his beloved 1954 Hindustan 14 Taxi still in service at the time, though dieseled. I wonder if it survived. Registered DLT 1601

The Pro-merger Movement with India in the French Settlements gained momentum in March 1954, despite harassment by the French Police, and the people in large numbers carried on a non-violent campaign for merger of these areas with India. Photo shows a large number of volunteers moving in lorries exhorting the people to join in the freedom movement.

As a Marine Surevyor, I had carried out various surveys of this dredging company.
Had witnessed this particular incident too. It pertained to British ship SS Fort Stikine incident of 1944.

BMT was indeed a commercial vehicle registration of Bombay.

Note how the number plates are written- Back in the day; the white background + black numericals combination was used in CV Registrations.

The black background and white numericals were used in private car number plates. Today; the system seems to have reversed.

What is the make of this vehicle?
I had seen a similar vehicle dumped at farm house of my friend's relative at Rajpura (Punjab) recently.
It is open top and If it has some classic value then I can bring it down for resto.
