Near the boarding plate, it says Route 171 and lists the stops. Route 171 used to ply from Flora Fountain to Gowalia Tank in those days??

Nowadays 171 plys from Worli to Antop Hill (well, my info is dated about 2005).

The side panel gently goes in-wards, and there is a running board kind of section between the front & rear wheels. And that foot-board at the door .. Just Wow !

Nowadays 171 plys from Worli to Antop Hill (well, my info is dated about 2005).

I remember my father telling me that the routes were alphabetically identified till the late 50s. This is B route. 171 could be fleet number. I have travelled on route #171 since the 70s and it has always originated from Worli dairy.

Nice photo of a an early BEST bus. From the number plate BOM 1559 it appears that this photo is from the late 1920's or very early 1930's. All vehicles were re-registered around that time, BOM was dropped and alphabets starting with Z were used.

The year 1874 saw the introduction of horse drawn tram cars. Electric double decker cars, as seen in this photo were put in service in 1920. The timeline is here.
