Anujan Motor Service - Thripoonithura, bearing Cochin State registration numbers (CS). Wonder what make are these buses? Thorneycroft? Maxwell-Chrysler? Rugby?

Clear picture of the same is also in display on the walls of Dutch Palace aka Mattanchery palace.

An ancient Ashok Leyland State Transport vehicle which is still serving as a breakdown vehicle for the ST buses. This vehicle was a Ashok Leyland ST bus built by the MSRTC's Central Workshop at Dapodi, Pune, which post active public service was later modified for the present maintenance role. The Classic Commercial Vehicles (Bus, Trucks etc) Thread-img_20191208_120218.jpg

That trailer is a Bajaj made piece of kit.

These ricks were still around in Pune, at least in 2016.

This photo opened the floodgates of memories of an another day.The public bus transport of Madurai town and suburbs was provided by the well known business conglomerate TVS group and were known for its punctuality and efficient service..One of the best managed public transport systems at that point of time.

Does anyone recall the lifespan of these Ford trucks? For how long were they sold? I wonder if any survive...

You shall find the answer in reply # 1205 I have not seen any survivors. They had already on the way to become a rarity when I started my CV sales career in 1989. These were the first trucks in India with a tilt cab. Like all things that come on the scene before their time, this feature caused quite some negative publicity.

Regards,

Wow.! Thanks a lot for posting this sir.

My great grand dad worked as 'Kanakku Pillai' / Accountant in Swarnambigai bus company during that period.

I showed this photo to my dad who is 75 now and he was so happy to see this.

He also said that Rathinasamy Pillai has visited our old house several times when my dad was youngster. And he himself has travailed in one of those similar kind of bus to Mettur to meet our relatives.

Once again thanks a lot for this photo.

PS: Swarnambigai is the name of female deity in the Lord Sugaveshwara Temple in Salem town.
