In 1964 a Chevrolet truck was advertised in the newspaper classifieds. The description reads 'Kekda lorry'




I've heard this nickname often for the Chevy trucks, some say it was for the WW2 pattern flat front FC trucks, others say it was for the later 41/42 model with the prominent grille. In some way they both could look like a crab But what was interesting to me was that this nickname was already in use in the 60s. I wonder when the Dukkar Fiat got its name?

It was this type that was called a Khekda. Most of them did duty carrying sand or as tow trucks before the Indian Army surplus Nissans came in.

1968 Kenworth tractor which was imported by the Kerala State Electricity Board in the early 70's, now with a private steel company who restored it.

Some specifics-
-In line 6 cyl Cummins engine with 250 bhp.
-1968 model which was made for the Canadian market and registered in 1971.
-Was lying unused in the KSEB compound and the present owner bought it around 8 years ago and restored it as he is a vintage vehicle enthusiast.
-At present it is not being used for duties.

The convertible Austin should be pretty rare in its own right! I can think of one more with the Bhogilal collection and no others.
