Re: The Classic Commercial Vehicles (Bus, Trucks etc) Thread

Hi all,

Cool thread.
This recently turned up in the city.

Looks like a Bedford J series Firetruck.
What makes this interesting is the Fire related paraphernalia.

Apparently has the Perkins P6 Diesel engine.

Regards
Shahrukh

The car was subsequently sold and a platform fashioned for the rear end of the body. This is what it looked like some years back when for sale. It is now in a Pune collection.

I remember seeing this as a hearse near Dorabjee biryani in the 1990s.

Mumbai's BEST used to be a big RUBY customer (till late 1990's). But nowadays I don't see any BEST bus bodies built by RUBY. Similarly JAY coach builders went out of vogue in early 1990's.

And ditto story with Antony. Circa 2005, Antony Garages was a big supplier of bus bodies for BEST. But nowadays you don't see those either.

I wonder why. Any idea?

Are these companies still around? I think they made very good bus bodies (esp RUBY and Antony).

Thank you for this! This is an unusual cowl design for TMB products. I guess the design must have been around for a very short duration. Wonder why the headlights are looking black. Is it possible for you to post a larger image and provide details of the newsletter?

Were these rear engined? Can't see the grill. Were the chassis made by AL or imported from British Leyland? Comet of course was made in India.
