Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() This is the first advertisement to ever carry the two names Mercedes and Benz together in a single campaign, I clicked this in the Mercedes Benz museum in stuttgart. Notice how the star comes from Mercedes and the surrounding wraith from benz to form the logo we know today Last edited by the mole : 10th February 2010 at 22:57. |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() Hi All, I have not seen many advertisements for this brand in India. The attached one was from May 1949. Was Mercury as brand ever sold in India either pre 1947 or post 1947 - early 1950s? The Art Quality of the advert really stans out inspite the badly preserved copy. Car illustrators really were a breed apart. Hope you like this Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe Ram |

The most popular Mercurys in India I would guess would be the 46-48 models, though some later models are around. I don't recall ever seeing this model. Appears to based on the Ford Custom. EDIT - I see it says Product of Ford of Canada - no wonder we aren't used to seeing this.

My 1950 Ford Monarch, that I have shown in My Garage, was based on the American Mercury. Canada being apart of the British Empire, the early Model T's exported to India came from Ford Canada in Windsor. Last edited by john a milne : 12th February 2010 at 07:58.

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() For lack of a better place, I post this here. It is a SIAA membership card dating to the 60s, courtesy my uncle. He bought his 1961 Fiat from his cousin in Madras in 1968, and this card is part of the extensive history file, including manual, warranty card, delivery tag - the works. ![]() ![]() Has anyone noticed that most parsi owned ice factories are called Mazda? ![]() |

Slightly off topic, but maybe of interest to some, Ford also made aircraft, the Ford Trimotor being one of them, also flying in Indian skies!
