They are formed into a shape of the map of India.

The performance gauge, is that a vaccuum meter, here in Sweden generally refered to as an econometer?

One must comment, that this image is a must for anyone studying Indian history, and in particular, the story of Indian Independence, as this image of the Hindustan Times contains many articles significant to the Indian Independence movement.

Lastly, were the BSA bikes, whose advertisement is shown, CKD's OR CBU's ?

The 1939 Buick, I presume, must have been fully imported.

Cheers!

Fintail/Heckflosse!

I am sorry, but I don't get the gist of this post. There are 1000's of old newspapers available of that period, all will carry something about the independence movement, it has become boring. One studying Indian history would visit archives where all such info is preserved, sometimes cataloged. One who researches selected topics, like us for motoring, will go through old newspapers and magazines and pull out items of interest. That is because topics such as motoring, movies, architecture etc. are not cataloged for us.

BSA's were imported as complete bikes, not in CKD. Some makes came in partially dismantled, like a separate tank, as it could be packed safely and damage avoided. Even in those days, cars came in as CBU's and CKD's there was assembly but no basic manufacture. Even today you can get BSA in CKD's, a standard bike is dismantled and a Gold Star is assembled.

1939 Buick may very well have been assembled, GM has been assembling Chevy's since late 1920's, I was recently told that other GM marques were also assembled. And there were lots of variety in 1939, tourer, limo, convertible, sedan, who knows that one model could have been assembled here.

Lastly, please do reduce the size of the post you quote, it makes for better reading.

Cheers harit
