Are you referring to the white line that seems to rise out of the roof of the taxi there ? That looks more like an electricity pole - it even seems to have a hoarding on it, at about 7-8 ft from (possible) road surface.

It was also featured in this booklet celebrating 75 years of Bombay Cycle, here (Remembering Bombay Cycle & Motor Agency, Opera House).

Attachment 1591512

I assume the gentleman in the car is Mr. Bhatena himself, probably the first case of a Parsi Maharaja if you go by the ad

LOL. Maharaja indeed!
Translation of the ad:

"Once upon a time he carried the Maharaja.

Built in 1909 and exceedingly spry as one can see.
No wonder, at Esso he is lovingly cared for. That applies to veteran cars as well as to brand new vehicles, for narrow sports cars as well as limousines
In the entire world you are in good hands with Esso, exactly as here … in Bombay."

I believe that they (Bhatena's) ran a petrol pump in Byculla.
An educated guess would suggest between 1960 to 1968 looking at the taxi which appears to be a Morris Minor or it's compatriots.
Dating the car is another issue. When entered either by the Parsi owner and later by Pranlal, it was always as a 1909, but the brochure brought out by BCMA clearly states that is a 1913 model.
Very nice.

Mystery solved, this is no collage. There is a petrol pump next to the erstwhile Ritz Hotel opp Khaitan Bhuvan in Churchgate. Go there and look towards Western Railway Headquarters, the building which you see. On the left is that insurance building next to Astoria Hotel. Opp the insurance building you would have Eros Cinema. This pump, from where the pic has been taken, still exists, I have a series of pics taken at the rear of the pump where they ran a workshop. Hotel Ritz is unfortunately shut. They had a nice Italian restaurant "Lido".

Here is a brochure for the Mahindra CJ4A, probably dating to the 70s.

It is interesting to note the pictures show LHD cars, and there is a line that reads "Steering is available in right-hand drive or left-hand options"

Re: The Classic Advertisement/Brochure Thread

Here is a real rarity - a comprehensive detailed and beautifully illustrated catalogue of the whole range of commercial vehicles from Premier Automobiles - and there are many! While it is not dated, there is a mention of the Premier President - so we can safely assume this dates to 1973, give or take a year.

Re: The Classic Advertisement/Brochure Thread

What an interesting thread! Amazing that after more than four years I keep finding new threads.

Looking for brochures and advertisement material of the classic cars I own is all part of what I call “fiddling with my cars”. See http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/diy-do...eo-spider.html

So it is very much an integral part of my car hobby. Although I do restrict it to the cars I own. Over the years I have acquired quite a few bits and pieces on all three of my cars. And every piece of documentation comes with its own story.

I typically trawl the internet and the various classic car exhibitions I frequent all over Europe. My particular Spider was upon production exported to the USA and stayed there till early 90’s when it was hauled all the way back to the Netherlands. Subsequently there are quite a few brochures and other materials for the American market. I managed to purchase the original Series 3 press package as well. I need to see where I have filed it.

But the one I really like is below; It is an original page from an American car magazine featuring my beloved Alfa Spider. It’s an interesting and very, very American type of sales pitch!

I found it on Ebay.com a few years after I bought the car. Well before the Euro and Internet banking. So mid 90s I guess. In those days, once I agreed the purchase price with the seller, I would go to my bank to get the appropriate amount of Dutch guilders converted into dollars and send it in a regular envelop by regular mail. Subsequently the package would arrive, usually took 3-6 weeks.

The seller was a lady that owned a Spider in California. We became friends and when she visited Europe (as all Americans do at some point in time) she came and visited us too and I took her for day tour across all of the Netherlands in my Spider.

She knew a lot of people who were involved in the American Alfa Romeo adventure before they pulled out of the USA market. She introduced me to one guy who still had access to the old Alfa sales records and we managed to trace most of my car history.

Later I found out that Alfa Romeo also provides a service to customers. You can write to them, quoting the VIN number and you will get a nice letter stating the original production date and where the car was exported too. I should have that somewhere too.

I’ll be posting some more of Alfa Romeo Spider, Mercedes W123 and Jaguar XJR materials over the days/weeks to come.

Re: The Classic Advertisement/Brochure Thread

An advertisement for Sharp radios from 1972. Interestingly it shows the price of a Ferrari Dino in 1972. No idea why either the car or the radio has such strange prices going to the second decimal. Currency conversion perhaps?
