WoW, a oval, i've seen just three oval window beetles(including this), and do those tail lights look as if they aren't installed properly?
A bit off topic:
How many oval window beetle are there in india, and are there any split Window ones?

The lady has to be turned 90 degrees to open the bonnet, or else the wings get in the way. Someone forgot to turn it back.

I know of 4 cars intact- the light blue car in Bombay, the beige one in Goa, this red one, and my now black car.

There used to be a junked red one in Delhi, PUL 7676. Im told it has been scrapped. I snapped 3 cars in Goa, but all 3 had the rear oval window cut and a large square window put in, amongst other mods. Im also told of another green original car in Goa. Bombay also has a 57 Convertible. I keep hearing legends of a Split in Goa and Assam, but nothing concrete. Someone on the forum had spoken of a red 55 oval for sale in Bangalore, I wonder if its the same car pictured in this thread. To my knowledge, My 56 was the oldest VW in India, but now I suppose the crown goes to the red 55 at Dharamsthala.

EDIT I forgot GDA 3414, the gold car in Goa.

Veerendra Heggade has a passion for classic cars and hence the museum. LIke PRajeep mentioned, many of these are donated.

There was a 50s AJS bike that I used to see during my college days. Two years ago, I spoke to the first owner (still rides it at 70+) to see if he would sell it to me. He said he is restoring it with spares from UK. Once he is satisfied with the resto, he will donate it to the Dharmasthala Museum. I did not try to pursue further knowing the faith people have in this temple (inlcuding myself).

Pavan, very presumptious of you to assume that the cars are just lying there. Every single one of them is in working condition and I have seen a few of them being started.

Its a privately owned collection and you should be just happy to even have been allowed to look at them !! Besides, none of the shaky pics that u have taken do full justice to the cars featured.

Karl I forgot to mention- I remember telling you about a junked oval here that was in the same colour as yours was.....it had a Madras (MDB ***) regn. so not sure if it had clear papers.....it was sitting on the roadside by a repair garage here for quite some time, slowly falling apart........last saw it in 2002 I guess....'wish I had gone & enquired about it once though!
