Re: Classic Motorcycles in India

Ram,

You have a lovely AJS twin, however I agree with KPS. Nothing to beat the timeless original look of the all black bike. Its hard to get good pinstriping in gold, so please ensure you have identified someone reliable to do this, prior to starting any paint.

Best wishes.

KPS, I am inclined to the original combi - now reinforced by the period Advert that Karl unearthed

I was confused by many styles that comes up from the "net" many claiming to be the original as can be seen from the collage below

Thanks for your support for my thought

However, my tank now has badge and the screws etc. So now I will look out for a tank instead of retro modifying it and throwing away the badges/monograms

Thanks for your comments.

Fortunately in Trivandrum (where the bike is) there still is a guy who practices this trade of "pin striping". Fortunately, there still exists a large group die hard Bullet purists, who patronize this man regularly and hence he is still in business.

Yezdi bikers cheer as Limca confirms record for largest Jawa congregation
Bengaluru, Apr 9, 2017, DHNS:
Bikers of the Bangalore Jawa Yezdi Motorcycle Club (BJYMC) and Jawa Nanna Jeeva had reason to celebrate on Saturday as they entered the Limca Book of Records for the ‘Largest Gathering of out-of-production Jawa Yezdi bikes in India’.

The two clubs, passionate about the superbike of the 60s and 70s, decided to mark the 13th International Jawa Yezdi Day on July 12, 2015, by setting a record.

The feat was achieved when 537 bikes and owners gathered at the National High School grounds, Basavanagudi, and completed a 3.22-km rally. After nearly two years, they finally got confirmation from Limca and unveiled the certificate on Saturday at the Press Club.

Though Ideal Jawa, the company which manufactured the bikes in Mysuru closed down in 1996, those who love the machines still stand by their tagline ‘Forever Bike, Forever Value’. Praveen P N, a realtor and member of BJYMC, owns a Yezdi Roadking. “I started riding at the age of 12 on a Jawa. Six years ago, I picked up the Roadking from scrap, hunted down its parts and restored it over several months.” There are many others like him in the club who have found fulfilment in solving the jigsaw puzzle of restoring the Jawa or Yezdi.

Sharath S Namburi of Jawa Nanna Jeeva said that they wanted to set a Limca record after a Bullet Club did the same. “In the 70s and 80s, these bikes used to feature in movies, chasing down the bad guys. Jawa is almost entirely made of metal, unlike sports bikes these days, so they are amazing to ride on long journeys,” he said.

Chakravarty R (84), the chief guest at the event, called Jawa and Yezdi the people’s bike because they were reliable and easy to maintain.

Wow both are absolute gems and very desirable, the twin looks like an Indian sport scout 600 twin? It's got the distributor so just a Guess.

And the New Hudson its most likely the only one in India.

Where are these bikes any for sale ? Some more information would put my mind to rest.

Something about these vintage bikes just hits the right chords. Would be quite a sight when restored.
Hope to hear from you with more details on the bikes.

Re: Classic Motorcycles in India

Possibly a New Find

MV Augusta 1960 235 cc Tevere. Mostly complete and amazingly still in running condition.

Reportedly the only one known to exist in India

A recent acquisition by a friend.

Hi There. Thanks. Have you seen it or do you have any pics of that ? Just to make sure that both are not the same as this one also has been acquired from the catchment area of Chennai.

Any input would be appreciated

Best Regards & Thanks.

Classic Motorcycles in India

Hi Joga, Ram
The Agusta pictured above has been purchased by me recently, from Mumbai.
To my knowledge it is the only 235 tevere in India and the 235 is a very rare machine of which very few were produced.
The bike is in very good shape mechanically, with only the cosmetic look needing work.
I intend to start restoration next year and hope to see it in Italian red .

Plan to start sourcing the parts over eBay and from some acquaintances in Italy, thankfully it's only cosmetic parts .
Joga, can you put some pictures of the 125 in chennai , would be nice reference as most of these bikes shared a lot of parts.

Cheers
