re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

Gentlemen,
I have just seen this on msn.co.uk and it might be of interest to you.

For sale: elephant-killing, machine-gun-toting Rolls-Royce

Your chance to buy a Maharaja Rolls used for hunting Bengal tigers
(see first photo)
It's not your everyday classified car advert: this weekend you could snap up this unusual 1920s Rolls-Royce - complete with a machine gun in tow. The rare 1925 Rolls-Royce Phantom Torpedo Sports Tourer was once owned by the Maharaja of Kotah in India, who equipped it for the pursuit of big-game hunting.
Umed Singh II used this opulent Roller to shoot Bengal tigers and other game at his extensive family estate, where he entertained visiting politicians, businessmen and even royalty. Notice how no attempt was made to camouflage this huge luxury car; it's still painted bright red.
(see second photo)

The 8.0-litre Rolls-Royce is up for auction as lot number 740 at this weekend's Barrett-Jackson sale in Las Vegas, the US. No starting point for bidding has been listed, but we're sure this slice of curio Indian history will fetch a strong price.
We're equally certain that other motorists will get out of the way if they see a giant Rolls-Royce in their rear-view mirror, toting what looks like a very heavy-duty machine gun!
(see third photo)

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

Do we have any info on Phantom II (129 RY) Windovers limousine (in fact a landaulette) which Hugh Keller (Paddon Bros) sold to the Governor of Bengal?

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

Thanks to the guidance from experts, I've managed to trace the extracts from Hugh Keller's diary (Paddon Bros) from The Flying Lady magazine's Mar-Apr 2001 edition. He had penned down a list of some of the more interesting RRs in his life. In that list i found the mention of the two of my 3 ancestral RRs, 83-SC and 12-NC (marked in the box)... Hugh's notes establish the fact that the 12-NC had submerged on the beach... Anyone knows if a copy of Hugh Keller's Reminisces/Diary can be obtained from somewhere?

Spotted this Rolls a few days back.
Have no idea as to what model it is though.

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

It is a pre-1977 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. Those Bentley Turbo wheels spoil it though

Here is a picture from an old RR Bulletin. This car is supposed to be a part of a religious celebration, maybe even Dussera, as the contributor is from Mysore. The car reg no is BMW 3285(?, its no legible), and its supposed to be a 25/30. What car is this? Maybe one of Pranlals?

MFA-3474, V.Mallya's Hooper car is #55EM, originally a Mayurbhanj car.

The chassis numbers are GAR71 (ex-Krinani), GGR56 (ex-Lakrawalla & Raman), GHO43 (ex-Nabha & Gill) who can match them with the pictures ?
Harit is correct that this picture was taken in Mysore as part of the Mysore Dussera. The car is indeed GGR56 now owned by the Raman's of Mysore. The car's original number BMW 3285 was re-registered to CTO 3825 after Mr. Raman bought this car in 1973.

Here is the picture of the car, with the then owner Late Mr. Raman in front of the Mysore Place (Picture courtesy : Dominator). The car remains with the family.

That is an interesting update KPS, thanks. So that means that CH 03 0067 is another car altogether - but which one?

Unless I am mistaken, GHO43 has flip-flap bonnet shutters, Cornercroft winglamps and a spotlight at the top of the windscreen post. CH-03-0067 has to be another 25/30HP or a post-GLG1 20/25HP.

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

CH-03 0067 photographed below on this page is not a Wraith. (see headlamps stanchions) the kneeling mascot would point to a 25/30HP rather than a late 20/25HP, but it's pure speculation... but it's a T&M all right.
