Car belonged to the Raja of Munger/Monghyr. It was ex-Viceroy, Silver Ghost , chassis 69TW, a Barker limousine.

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

Was great to finally see 60AL at the recent event in Delhi. From my understanding the following are the stages the car has passed through.

Classic Rolls Royces in India-rollsp101.jpg
Classic Rolls Royces in India-rollsp103.jpg

1 - first body Barker Sports Tourer

2 - second body Barker Allweather #6860
Classic Rolls Royces in India-02.jpg

3 - missing body lying with Bhavanagar municipality
Classic Rolls Royces in India-03.jpg

4 - replica body in the style of the first body
Classic Rolls Royces in India-04.jpg

Am I right? Lines are also very similar to the Jodhpur/Idar/Bikaner car 9LC, though we can see clear differences in the doors and fenders.

Great job at the recreation - the rear body however, looks far too short compared to the original. It may be just the angle of the photograph.

These embellishments were supposed to have been real silver.

This car when scrapped first lost all its silver decor and was standing with a lot of holes in place. And then scrapped. Gaudy? Well, today this car would have been worth much more because of these gaudy embellishments. And not just for the silver value, a premium it would carry.

I am sure that this car has been pictured before on this thread, this is a famous photo. A suggestion to anyone viewing these pages of tbhp, before joining in November 2008, I went through all the pages at that time. Today there are many more pages.

Another point, this is the Pre War section, yet the thread is calle Classic Rolls Royce's in India. These are not classics, but vintages.

Does anyone know this car and its present whereabouts??

Re: Faster789's collection

"A 1933 Rolls-Royce 20/30 (Sedanca de Ville) that belonged to Maharani Sethu Parvati Bai of Travancore had a small stool on the floor. On it sat a dwarf who massaged the queen's legs," writes Baig in his book Rolls-Royce and the Indian Princes.

I am really curious to know is there any snap existing of this 1933 Rolls-Royce 20/30 (Sedanca de Ville) that belonged to Maharani Sethu Parvati Bai of Travancore Palace. Any info on the current whereabouts of this car?

Any inputs on this are highly appreciated, thanks in advance

The car is a 20/25; chassis GLZ17. Very much alive in the Bhogilal collection. Don't know if the stool survives, though !

I do not know the registration of the RR.

My Uncle had it for a short while after the Palace....have not had any luck finding pictures from that time. Anyone in the family that would have known the details are unfortunately no more.

On our family's annual outing to Kanyakumari (Cape Comorin), the cooks and other household staff used to be sent ahead of time to prepare the beachfront home. However, there used to be a long timer (Karthiyayani Amma) who refused to go with the rest; and preferred to sit on the floor of the family Cadillac (1947 or 1948) for the 50 mile ride from Trivandrum! Those were different times; and may have been a common practice that spawned the foot massage story. The "stool" was probably in all reality, a retractable foot rest.

The Cadillac was sold in the late 1970's - last I saw it was in Bangalore, in 1981/82. Registration was KLT-696 or a combination of those numbers.

Seeking a 1930 Rolls-Royce Phantom-II rolling chassis or a bare frame, if there's any for sale or any leads, please PM me, many thanks!

Tweety bird with his eagle eye pointed out something so obvious that we all missed for so long - see the hand controls on the steering wheel. The car is #64H9, ex Udaipur and now in Orissa.

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

A friend took these pictures in the late 90's. Neither he nor I remember where he saw it.

Also, I fond my copy of Raymond Gentile's book today. It was assumed lost for close to 15 years. Bought for the princely sum of Rs.100 :-)

Thanks for the wonderful pictures. Taken at Udaipur; R-R 20 H.P. Chassis GLK21.

Long before it was resurrected; and eventually went all the way to Pebble Beach!
